Chapter 9: The Hidden Feelings

It was the last Sunday before Jasmine’s internship started. She and Lilly decided to spend it to the fullest, as starting from tomorrow, they would experience real work life.

Jasmine wanted to go to Rayan’s café, but she knew that he would not be there. She did not want to sound pushy and desperate in front of Lilly as well. So, she decided to spend this Sunday on the beach, and she booked a yacht to spend their evening on.

She was so excited about this day and happy, but at the same time, her phone call with her sister evoked mixed feelings.

Mainly, she felt uncomfortable, not because Sue thought that Rayan had left her, but because Jasmine, for a second, felt happy to know that Sue had lost her love. This feeling made Jasmine scared of herself.

She did not like to admit that she was happy over her sister’s sadness. She always disagreed with her mom, who acted weird with Sue. Sometimes Jasmine felt that her mother was jealous of Sue too. She never liked how her mom acted or behaved with Sue, and today she felt that she is her mother’s daughter.

She felt disgusted with herself.

After closing the phone call with Sue, her mother’s words came to Jasmine’s mind “You are way prettier than this dwarf. You have the finest hair, the purest face, and the perfect body. Plus, you are the real heir to the knights’ family. So, don’t put yourself in comparison with Sue. She has nothing to do in life but to excel in her studies. Unlike you, you have it all.”

Janet said these words to Jasmine when Sue was away for an exhibition abroad, and Rayan skipped a job interview to meet her.

It was his first job interview after he graduated, and it was in one of the country’s leading companies. Yet, Rayan came to know that Sue would be away for the whole week in a different country. So, he left everything behind to go after her.

“There will be several jobs, but there is only one, Sue.” These were Rayan's words when he saw Sue, who was in complete shock to see him at the exhibition.

“I cannot believe you.” Sue replied. “You have lost your mind.” She cheerfully laughed.

“These flowers are for the best artist ever.” He handed her a beautiful bouquet and hugged her.

At the same moment, Sue sent a message to Jasmine. “You cannot believe who is with me now. Rayan is here. He skipped his job interview to be with me. He picked me over his interview. Do you believe it? This is for now; I will talk to you later with details. Take care. Love you.”

Sue used to share everything with Jasmine, especially anything that made her happy.

Sue knew that Jasmine would be thrilled to hear this, as she always did. Sue thought that Jasmine would be happy whenever Sue was happy. Besides, Jasmine requested Sue to keep her updated and inform her about everything that Rayan did or said.

Sue kept sending messages to Jasmine out of her excitement. “Jasmine, it really means a lot; Rayan is afraid of planes. Can you believe it! He just told me this. But, he overcame his fear to be with me.”

“Happy for you, but sorry, I cannot see something so special about it. LOOOOOOOOOL. You are just making a big deal out of it because you love him. Anyway, darling, have fun and enjoy.” Jasmine’s reply came after a long pause. Sue’s messages sounded so harsh to Jasmine.

Janet was talking to Jasmine when she noticed that her daughter suddenly was in a different world. It was the first time for Jasmine to express her jealous feeling of Sue to her mother. She never liked to say it loudly, even to herself, but when Sue’s relation with Rayan started, Jasmine could not handle it.

Jasmine had many admirers. She never felt that any of them are worthy of spending her time with. Until she met James, a senior student at the top of his class, she liked him. And they were close. James got a chance to study in the country’s best business program, so he moved out.

During the first weeks, James spoke to Jasmine regularly. Later on, he started to text her instead. Then, after three months, he stopped contacting her.

Jasmine had no problem with this, as she never felt something more than a small admiration towards him. However, she only liked the idea of being with the top student in the college. Plus, James was the college girls’ dream guy.

Looking at how Rayan treated Sue and how they developed their relationship at a very fast pace had aroused undesired feelings in Jasmine’s heart.

Janet placed her arm around Jasmine’s shoulder and said, “Believe me, darling, this Rayan of her, if he is a sane person, he will leave Sue whenever he gets a chance to do so. But, if he is still with her, then I am sure he is a loser.” Janet continued. “Let us watch their silly love story, just for fun.” She said this with a sarcastic smile and kissed her daughter’s forehead.

Then, Janet got up and said, “Come on, my beautiful Jasmine, let us get ready. We will be late for the reception.”

Back then, Jasmine did not like what her mother told her, but she wished it was true. And today, when she spoke to Sue, she was happy that her mother's words were true. She was thrilled because she was way better than Sue, the shining star of the knights’ house, as her father always said.

At the same time, her heart ached for Sue. Jasmine could not stand seeing her sister in pain.

Lilly and Jasmine were on the yacht. Lilly was taking photos of herself in different poses.

“Jasmine, I sent you the photos. Which one is the best? I need to change my profile picture.” Lilly asked.

Jasmine was looking at the sea, thinking about her sister, and she did not hear Lilly’s question.

“Jasmine, hey you.” Lilly came closer and poked on Jasmine’s shoulder.

“Ah, yes, Lilly, what is it?” Jasmine said.

“What is it with you Jasmine? Are you ok?” Lilly asked.

Jasmine nodded and said, “Yea, I am. I am just worried about Sue.”

“Why? What happened with Sue?” Lily wondered.

Jasmine took her phone to check the photos Lily sent her, and she said, “Normal stuff at work.”

She looked at the photos and commented, “Anyway, your pictures suck.”
