9 The Spar! Part-2

{Training ground, Konoha Academy, Konohagakure}

{1st day of Class}

{3rd Person POV}

...

'So it doesn't even tell me what rewards I missed...' Ren looked through the block thoroughly, he wanted to learn the Intermediate Academy Taijutsu right away so he opened his inventory with a simple thought. He concentrated on learning the Intermediate Academy Taijutsu Skill scroll and the scroll dissolved.

Just like last time a rush of information flooded his brain, he shook a little to relax his muscles as he was feeling a little stiff right now. He closed the screens in front of him once again and did a small sweep to see if someone noticed any abnormality.

'Alright no abnormal glances or stances, though a few people are looking in my direction I better be careful.' Ren thought as he focused his attention on Iruka.

Iruka looked through the list once again, after making sure he got all the records right he looked around and spoke, "Alright, you all did a good job, although there were some people who obviously didn't practice during the summer break..." he paused to glare at some students who were hiding behind their classmates, "...we'll move along to the next part of your evaluations, taijutsu practice."

"What a drag..." Ren heard Shikamaru mutter, the lazy Nara was standing a lot closer to Ren than before, he realized that Shikamaru was up to something so he simply asked the question with a head tilt.

As the class moved towards the sparring ground Ren looked at Shikamaru, who slouched beside Ren and said, "What rank were you last year?"

'...what is he up to now?'

"3rd..." Ren's answer was short and concise, but it made Shikamaru pause before he slowly started walking again. Ren arrived at the sparring ground first, with Shikamaru and Choji trekking behind.

Shikamaru looked deep in thought as Ren returned to looking at Iruka in anticipation again.

'Who will he match me with?'

The third portion of the exam was a simple one-on-one taijutsu spar, so his opponent matters a lot. Most of the time the spars were based on luck since everyone had to fight against just one opponent.

'Status...' Ren thought and the familiar-looking blue block appeared in front of him.

After he gained access to this power, and verified the effect of adding points to his stats, he hadn't touched his remaining points yet. He just had 10 points as he hadn't been able to find quests, after wasting an entire day looking around everywhere trying to trigger quests he gave up and focused on working hard to gain stats.

It wasn't as easy to gain stats as he was expecting, he went through his usual conditioning routine for a whole week and just gained a couple of stats, one in STR and one in END. It was the notification that he got every day that clued him into another direction. He realized that after a good night of sleep, his chakra and stamina automatically regenerate. So he got the idea of using weights to increase his training efficiency, and the effect was impressive, he managed to gain an increase of 4 in DEX alone.

Ren was wearing weights right now, he only had one rod of 5 kg on each leg but it did slow him down enough to provide a challenge. But if he had to spar Ren could simply unequip the weights from his Inventory. No one would know and if the opponent was weaker than him, then he could even use the weights to set up a trap.

...

Ren focused once again as Iruka got ready to announce the first pair of fighters, he looked around the class one more time before he spoke, "Sasuke Uchiha vs..." Before he could finish, an orange figure ran into the sparring circle shouting, "Uzumaki Naruto."

Ren watched as most of the kids chuckled and pointed at the class clown, even Sasuke simply walked into the sparring circle, this seemed like an everyday occurrence at the academy.

'...so just walked in and challenged the Uchiha?'

Ren was puzzled by Naruto's choice, his actions were counteractive, and every single orphan that Ren knew would not make such an idiotic choice.

'At least now I know why even with those stats Uzumaki is dead last, he doesn't seem smart, his Shurikenjutsu is subpar, and if loses every spar then he simply doesn't get enough points with his Shurikenjutsu to ever escape his fate...'

"No," Iruka denied the spar causing everyone to pause for a moment, "Naruto, get out of the ring," Naruto looked at Iruka puzzled but seeing Iruka ready to shout at him again he dejectedly walked out of the sparring circle.

"... Ren" Iruka finished his earlier statement and then looked at Ren pointedly. Getting the message, Ren walked forward and stepped into the ring, the quest appeared once again but he dismissed it straight away, he needed to focus right now.

'Inventory' Ren thought and then mentally removed the weights that he was wearing, he felt the weight on his feet vanish but he didn't break his stride as he strode into the sparring circle.

He looked at Sasuke once again and sized him up, the last Uchiha was the strongest in the class, and knowing the huge rewards he could get from completing the hidden quests Ren was ready to fight for his life.

'I can't fight him head-on, even if he knows the katas to the intermediate academy taijutsu style, he was still a little bit faster and stronger than me.' Ren thought, he hesitated about investing in some stats as he looked at Sasuke's dark eyes sizing him up.

"Ready? Fight!"
