Chapter 20 : siblings bond

Before Riya could retort, their mother intervened, putting an end to their bickering.

"That's enough. You two can start fighting anywhere, and Riya, are you still scared of heights?" she asked, redirecting the conversation.

Riya paused for a moment, realizing she had momentarily forgotten her fear amidst the squabble.

"Right, I forgot," she admitted sheepishly. It was true—whenever they argued, everything else seemed to fade into the background as they focused solely on winning the argument.

Just then, a final announcement echoed through the cabin, signaling the imminent takeoff of the plane.

Riya instinctively clutched Mrs. Sharma's hand tightly, her heart pounding with apprehension. "Lord Krishna, Lord Krishna..." she murmured under her breath, seeking solace in prayer as the plane began to ascend.

As the aircraft gained altitude, Riya felt her anxiety intensify. Every noise, every jolt, seemed to magnify her fear, threatening to overwhelm her.

She wanted to scream, to release the pent-up tension building inside her, but she gritted her teeth and remained silent, unwilling to give in to her fear.

Gradually, the plane stabilized, and Riya felt a sense of relief wash over her.

Still holding onto Mrs. Sharma's hand, she cautiously opened her eyes, finding solace in the sight of her family members moving about the cabin.

"Sis, the plane has stabilized now. You can let go of Mom's hand," Miya remarked, breaking the silence.

Riya hesitated for a moment before releasing her mother's hand, feeling a sense of accomplishment wash over her. "Wow, I thought you would scream, but you didn't," Miya remarked, surprised by Riya's composure.

"Yeah, I thought so too. At one point, I wasn't sure if I could handle it, but somehow, I did," Riya replied, her voice tinged with relief. It was a small victory, but for Riya, it was a significant step forward in overcoming her fear of heights.

As the flight progressed, Riya found herself slowly relaxing, the initial fear giving way to a sense of wonder and excitement.

Peering out of the window, she marveled at the breathtaking view of the clouds drifting by, feeling a sense of liberation wash over her.

In that moment, Riya realized that sometimes, the most significant triumphs came from overcoming the fears that held us back, and she felt a newfound sense of strength and resilience coursing through her veins.

With each passing moment, she grew more determined to embrace the adventures that awaited her in Korea, ready to face whatever challenges came her way with courage and conviction.
