Author's note: this is from Seraphina's point of view

My vision returned as the scorching pain in my back subsided. What the hell was that?

The vicious sting on my shoulder got my attention and I saw that the rascal responsible for my most recent sufferings was sitting there.

"What did you do to me?" That was more than just a bite.

'Can you hear me now?'

I turned to identify from where that voice came. It was a child but… how was that possible? We were in the middle of a forest that stretched for dozens of kilometers in every direction with no settlements in the area.

Vesper was still lying on the ground, unconscious, so it couldn't be her.

'You can hear me!'

There it was again.

It sounded close, very close. Was someone messing with me?

My irritation swelled by the second. Sure, I didn't think that going to an auction of creatures would be a walk in the park, but this was just one thing after another.
