It was late summer when I transferred to this school because Mom and Dad were posted here as the Korea government demanded. I was in first year of my high school life. It was a year ago.
At first it was hard for me to get adjusted to this place since I was from the countryside. After moving in the apartment of a building I already started to miss my old hometown and my old friends. They were also fellow heroes like me. We worked together and spent time together. Our bond was also unbreakable. But crimes in Seoul started increasing and the people needed Mom and Dad to help them.
They are one of the Pillars (Ranked as the strongest heroes of a respective country). They were called No. 4 and 5 based on thier rankings.
I didn't have friends from the start at school, except the boy who sat beside me. Their likings, interests were different from mine. As a countryside boy, I enjoyed the nature and the scenery from my village while in the cities they always talked about shopping, karaoke, games and such. I also didn't want to talk that much with them. I was missing my friends who would smile at me and talk about seashells which they found near the riverbanks. I was missing the stars we used to look at during our camping on the mountains. I also missed the games we played around like kids. I guess village life and city life is quite different.
The only thing I had common here was the library. I would spent my time in the library reading various kinds of categories of books like fiction, autobiography and such. There I made friends with some hero nerds and would spent my time in the library talking about heroes etc. Soon I opened up to them and we became close. I also tried to accept reality and live in the city.
It was mid June when I met Jag-eun.
One day I stayed late in the club, finishing up the novel I borrowed from the library. All of the club members left for home. I stayed there, reading with full focus. Soon noon came and I finished my novel.
"Tch. It's getting late," I thought. "I better get going home or Mom and Dad might worry about me."
I closed the book and took my bag. I went to the library and brought the book to the librarian.
"Would you like to borrow another, Jin-hoon?" the librarian boy asked.
"Is it okay? I thought that after giving back a book I have to wait for two days to borrow another."
"Don't worry that. I'll cover up for you And you seem to be interested in reading another one."
"Well, if you insist."
I went to the bookshelves to find myself an interesting one. But nothing seemed to interest me. I went from shelves to shelves to look for a book. But nothing came.
I sat alone on a chair, resting myself up a bit for a moment. Then Jag-eun came. At that time I didn't know her and she didn't know me. I stared at her, wondering what might be she doing at this time in the school library.
"Here," Jag-eun said to the librarian handing him a book. "I finally brought the book."
"Good. Managed to give it back at the nick of time."
The librarian then looked at me.
"Did you find any book, Jin-hoon" the librarian asked.
"No," I answered. "Give me a little bit of time to search. Finding a book to read is quite difficult."
"Yeah. I can't say no to that," Jag-eun suddenly talked. "When a book starts getting interesting you find another to read and it distracts to read the unfinished. So frustrating."
"Well, for me I finished the books that I marked. Now I have to choose a certain book that I will find interesting. But no book takes my attention." I thought.
By what she said I can tell that she's an amateur when it comes to book. I bet she didn't even finish a single book completely.
"But to remind you, Jag-eun," the librarian caught her in his vision. "You should be more like Jin-hoon. Giving back the book at the right time."
"But didn't I give you back the book already?"
"To tell the truth you're 4 hours late."
"4 hours?" Jag-eun looked frustrated. "4 hours is nothing. And you can also cover up that late."
"Yeah But the Headmaster always checks the condition of the books. And for that I got scolded again. So yeah it matters."
A brief silent came. "But let's leave it like that. You two can take your time looking for the book since I am here for sometime. And it will feel lonely without you two. So you're happy to stay a little bit if you have time."
I decided to stay for a bit. I called Mom and Dad to not worry about me and I again started my book hunting.
