Rescue in the Shadow

First of all, I apologize for the previous chapter. Due to my negligence in previous chapters, I did not make it clear that the ability God's Senses is an active ability and that Mateus only uses it in necessary situations, like what happened with Mahiru. I probably didn't write it well, so it seemed like Mateus initially already knew that Mahiru had been kidnapped, but he didn't. He didn't know, and as he imagined she was at school, he looked for her without using the ability to respect others' privacy. So keep that in mind. I hope you forgive me for the mistake.

Second, forgive my shamelessness, but if you're in the mood to read an original story of action and adventure in another world, read my novel "Legacy of the Dragons."

Finally, enjoy the chapter.

Darkness enveloped Mahiru like a suffocating shroud. She woke with a start, her eyes adjusting to the faint light filtering into the dark chamber where she was held. The air was heavy and humid, laden with a sense of impending danger. She tried to move but soon realized her wrists were tightly bound and a gag covered her mouth.

Fighting against panic, Mahiru tried to remember what had happened. The memories came in confusing flashes—a group of hooded figures, a cruel gleam of magic, and the terrifying sensation of being dragged away from her home.

Fear gripped her heart, but she knew she had to stay calm. Mateus was her first thought, but she knew that he, like any other normal person, couldn't help her. She was alone.

Outside the chamber, voices whispered in a language Mahiru couldn't fully understand. She knew, however, that she was in grave danger. The kidnappers, members of the Khaos Brigade, were plotting something terrible. Their leader, a fallen angel with cold, calculating eyes, seemed to be in charge of the operation. She heard fragments of conversations, Mateus's name being mentioned repeatedly.

"Someone help me!" Mahiru pleaded, her voice muffled by the gag. She knew her chances were slim, but she couldn't give up. Each passing minute felt like an eternity, and hope was the only thing keeping her sane.

Meanwhile, in the recesses of the underworld, a sinister plan was unfolding. The Khaos Brigade had a clear mission: to use Mahiru as bait to lure Mateus. They knew the deep bond between the two and were willing to exploit it to the fullest.

A fallen angel, known only as Dagon, watched everything with a cold smile. His eyes, filled with calculated malevolence, glinted with satisfaction. He was tall and imposing, with black wings that seemed to absorb the light around him.

"Mateus will come for her," Dagon said, his voice echoing through the chamber walls. "And when he does, we'll be ready."

Mahiru tried her best to concentrate, searching for any sign she could use to escape or at least leave a clue for whoever might find her. Her mind raced with possibilities, even as fear threatened to overwhelm her.

Anger seethed within Mateus like a volcano on the verge of erupting. He couldn't shake the image of Mahiru in danger, each thought fueling his desire for vengeance. Determined to swiftly and ruthlessly thwart whatever scheme the Khaos Brigade had, Mateus vowed to make those who endangered Mahiru suffer for their actions.

Mateus took a deep breath, closing his eyes to concentrate. He invoked his most powerful ability, God's Senses. This ability allowed him to locate any person or object he desired with absolute precision. In his mind, Mateus visualized Mahiru, feeling the connection they shared. A wave of energy coursed through his body as the ability began to work, illuminating his path with almost divine clarity.

The seconds dragged on until, finally, Mahiru's image appeared before him, showing her exact location. She was locked in a dark chamber, surrounded by malevolent auras that Mateus instantly recognized as belonging to the Khaos Brigade.

Wasting no more time, Mateus teleported, breaking through the barriers of space with a burst of light. In the blink of an eye, he materialized at the entrance of the chamber where Mahiru was held. The darkness around him seemed to retreat in his presence, and his aura glowed with an intensity that would make even the bravest tremble.

In front of him, Dagon, the fallen angel responsible for the kidnapping, rose, his cruel smile fading upon seeing Mateus. "You came faster than I expected," Dagon said, trying to mask his surprise.

"I didn't come just to rescue Mahiru," Mateus replied, his voice icy and filled with restrained fury. "I came to end you and everyone who dared to harm her."

With a swift movement, Mateus advanced, his supernatural abilities turning him into a blur of light and shadow. Dagon barely had time to react before being thrown against the wall with devastating force. The impact echoed through the chamber, and a cry of pain escaped the fallen angel's lips.

While Dagon struggled to recover, Mateus rushed to Mahiru. With a gesture, he cut her bonds and removed the gag. "It's okay now, Mahiru. I'm here," he said softly, his voice carrying a promise of protection.

Mahiru, still dazed and frightened, nodded, tears of relief streaming down her face. "Mateus..."

He turned back to Dagon, the rage in his eyes now a blazing, uncontrollable fire. "You will pay dearly for this. And this is just the first installment."

The confrontation was only beginning, and Mateus was determined to ensure that those who threatened Mahiru would never have the chance to harm anyone again.

"You will wish you were never born," replied Mateus, his voice icy and laden with restrained fury. With a cold and chilling tone, he invoked a high-level fire spell, "Inferno Flames." This spell caused the target to burn forever, never able to die.

As he cast the spell, an explosion of infernal fire engulfed Dagon. The fallen angel let out an agonizing scream as the eternal flames consumed him, his pain only just beginning. The terror in his eyes was evident as he realized the extent of his sentence.

Upon witnessing their leader's fate, Dagon's many subordinates panicked, desperately trying to escape to save their lives. But Mateus was determined to let no one escape unpunished. He moved with the speed of lightning, dealing each of them a swift death. With lethal precision, he cut off their escape routes, ensuring that none of them would survive to tell the tale.

As the last of the enemies fell, Mateus rushed to Mahiru. With a gesture, he cut her bonds and removed the gag. "It's okay now, Mahiru. I'm here," he said softly, his voice carrying a promise of protection.

Mahiru, still dazed and frightened, nodded, tears of relief streaming down her face. "Mateus..."

He turned back to Dagon, now nothing more than a shadow of his former self, burning eternally in the "Inferno Flames." The rage in his eyes now a blazing, uncontrollable fire. "You have paid dearly for this. And this is just the first installment."

The confrontation was only beginning, and Mateus was determined to ensure that those who threatened Mahiru would never have the chance to harm anyone again. That is, if they will even be able to survive this eternal torment...

Author here. To be honest, lately it's been hard to stay motivated to keep writing this story. Maybe I was too ambitious with the premise I brought. If you enjoy this story, don't worry, at least for now, I don't plan on dropping this fic.

Creation is hard, cheer me up!
