Chapter 2

"How can I know you're not lying to me?" I said this as I tried to process what he just told me.

Eros then threw a bunch of documents with my face on them, but what caught my eye was a birth certificate with the name "Athena Alaister".

I graded the certificate and showed Eros.

"This birth certificate is named 'Athena Alaister'! And my name is 'Lilith Foster; our names are completely different, so this can't be mine!" I said happily, hitting him, that he had found the wrong girl.

"Oh, but that is yours, before your fake family changed your name to 'Lilith Foster'. All the things you want to know are right here, in the documents. But of course, if you want to hear the truth from your 'family," then feel free to do so." Eros replied

As I slowly looked at each document that Eros gave me, arranged by how things happened,  thanks to the documents, I found out that my parents were Gabriel Alaister and Dione Alaister; my father, Gabriel, owned a company called 'xxxxx Company', and my mother, Dione, was the daughter of a rich family and a famous model, who sadly passed away three years after I was born because of a car crash.

As for Athena, she was born on July 10, 2008, but got kidnapped and was last seen at a park. Since a mysterious guy took her in broad daylight, Athena has been missing for fifteen years.

"Your father has been looking for you, Athena. It's time to go home; come with me." Eros said, with a concerning voice.

"Can you give me a minute...?" "I just want to talk to them," I replied, trying to figure out how I should feel after what I just found out.

"Alright, take your time; just tell me if you're ready to leave." Eros then leaned back as I stood up and walked to the door.

As I went outside the dining room, I saw my family gathered in the living room, and I sat across from them.

"Is it true?" I asked, hoping for them to tell me that Eros had been lying to me and that he had made it all up. But they just looked at each other; I couldn't believe it—even my brothers knew.

I felt a sense of betrayal, anger, and hurt that they'd been hiding the truth from me for fifteen years.

"But Lilith, you have understood." My mother tried to explain before I cut her off.

"Understand, what?..." I said in disbelief. I couldn't believe it; it was all true; they've been lying to me this whole time.

And without even wasting a second, I looked at Eros, then stood up. He then lent me his hand to help me stand up, and as I reached for the door to leave, my fake father said, "We hid the truth from you for a reason.".

"Then what's the reason?!"" I cut him off, trying to control my voice so that I didn't sound hurt or mad too.

"Before I tell you the reason, first you have to understand what kind of ma-"

" 'What kind of man is my real father?" But I lost my temper, and before I knew it, I was full of anger—an anger that I had never felt before—the type of anger that I think I was able to use to hurt them. But before I could do anything, Eros grabbed my arm and slightly pulled me towards him.

"Lilith" was all my father could say before I cut him off.

"It's Athena, Ellington." I called him by his name, all the while correcting him about my name.

But before I left, I turned to them and asked. "Just tell me one thing: why did you do it?"

They were dead silent, and so I left without knowing the answer.
