Chapter 47: A Serene and Beautiful Morning
"Good morning, Little Swallow," Lin Yu turned around and smiled faintly, but his gaze momentarily froze. He saw Liu Xiaoyan wearing a white pleated dress today, paired with a pair of delicate white peep-toe sandals, her toenails adorned with a beautiful shade of red polish.
Her lustrous black hair cascaded down her shoulders like a waterfall, giving her a radiant appearance, as if kissed by the morning sun, or perhaps enhanced by a touch of rose-colored blush. She looked even more beautiful, more graceful, akin to a charming and endearing figure, one wished to hold close and cherish dearly.
However, it seemed she had taken great care in dressing up today. The reason behind this meticulous attire remained a mystery.
"Good morning, Yu Ge," Liu Xiaoyan bit her lip, a touch shy as she avoided Lin Yu's slightly probing gaze, nodding subtly, almost like a mosquito bite.
"You're dressed so beautifully. What's the occasion? Are you going for a blind date?" Lin Yu looked at this graceful and charming girl with a surge of unexplainable affection, teasing her with a chuckle.
"A blind date? I don't even have a boyfriend," Liu Xiaoyan bit her lip and glanced at him.
"Not having a boyfriend is all the more reason to go on a blind date," Lin Yu chuckled, sensing that though Little Swallow had grown in appearance, her logical thinking had not matured. These matters were causally connected, not contradictory.
"Do you wish for me to go on a blind date? My mother hasn't started worrying yet, why are you concerned?" Liu Xiaoyan glared at him, wrinkling her small nose in an adorable manner.
"You're in a rush. Your flushed face and neck show someone's admiration for you, proving your excellence. You should be happy. Look at how agitated you are," Lin Yu said, bemused by her sudden urgency. Why was she getting anxious? This girl, really.
"I don't want to be admired by that toad," Liu Xiaoyan huffed, but strangely, hearing Lin Yu's words made her feel unexpectedly sweet and elated, instantly lighting up her face—girls couldn't hide their feelings; their faces showed it all.
"Haha, that's right. How can a toad be worthy of our little swan?" Lin Yu laughed heartily.
As soon as she heard the words "our home," Liu Xiaoyan's heart suddenly thumped vigorously, ardently, like boiling water.
"Yu Ge, what are you going to do?" After a moment of private happiness, Liu Xiaoyan came back to her senses, tilting her head and asking him.
"I'm off to work," Lin Yu shrugged.
"Wow, going to work? That's great! Did you find a job?" Liu Xiaoyan's face broke into a genuinely sweet smile, filled with heartfelt joy.
"It's nothing special, just a job at Mingren Girls High School. I'll find out the specifics of the position and salary today. Just accompanying a group of teenage girls, nothing exciting," Lin Yu waved it off nonchalantly.
"Goodness, Mingren Girls High School? Aren't you content? Brother, you know, that's the best elite school in our city. Even regular postgraduates find it difficult to get employed there," Liu Xiaoyan's mouth formed an 'O,' incredulous. It was indeed the reality.
"I don't think it's that great, just a regular thing," Lin Yu remembered the mysterious and calculated Vice Principal Lan Chu, dismissing it with a wave of his hand.
"You're not content. For someone like me, I won't even dream of getting into that school in my lifetime. Yu Ge, you're really amazing, finding a good job upon your return," Liu Xiaoyan said, envious.
"You're studying medicine, not education. Why bother about this? Alright, let's drop the topic. Xiaoyan, why are you dressed so beautifully? You haven't answered my question yet," Lin Yu looked at the radiant and charming Liu Xiaoyan, smiling as he asked.
"I…" Liu Xiaoyan's face turned red. However, hearing Lin Yu compliment her beauty made her feel somewhat sweet and light-headed. Gathering her thoughts, she replied, "I'm going... to work."
"Work?" Lin Yu paused. "Didn't you say you finished your night shift and wanted to rest today? Why are you going to work again?"
"Ah, did I say that?" Liu Xiaoyan was momentarily tongue-tied. After a pause, she said, "Then I'm going shopping."
"You're going shopping in such high heels. Aren't you afraid of getting tired?" Lin Yu rolled his eyes, puzzled about her intentions.
"Well, if I want to... Do you have to mind? I'll do whatever I want, you don't need to worry," Liu Xiaoyan blushed and, with a huff, marched away in her high heels.
"This girl, when did she become so unpredictable?" Lin Yu smiled wryly, watching her walk away. Yet, deep down, his grandmother's words echoed, "I've decided on this daughter-in-law for you; you must marry her."
"Hmm, this little girl is as cute as a small ornamental fan. If she becomes someone to warm my bed and accompany me, that wouldn't be too bad," Lin Yu thought to himself, somewhat shamelessly.
