Identity cards

The first gentle rays of sunlight tickled my face as I opened my eyes and found myself wrapped in warm blankets. The scent of fresh roses caressed my nose, while soft bird chirps pierced the morning silence.

Beside me lay Mia, still deep in slumber.

I couldn't help but gaze at her for a while.

Her face, lightly illuminated by the morning sun, appeared so peaceful and perfect. The gentle breath escaping her lips revealed the innocence of sleep, while her smooth black hair cascaded like a soft veil around her face.

Quietly, I got up to avoid waking her and slipped into some comfortable clothes.

My bare feet softly slapped against the warm stone floor as I made my way to the kitchen.

A tender smile crept onto my face as I thought of my wife.

I prepared everything on a tray and returned quietly to the bedroom.

There she still lay, eyes closed, enveloped in the world of dreams. Gently, I brushed a strand of hair from her face and kissed her forehead before placing the tray on the nightstand.

"Good morning," I whispered softly.

She opened her eyes slightly, and in their blue depths reflected warmth and tenderness, but also the lingering fatigue of the night.

A bit of saliva glistened at the corner of her mouth and dripped onto the bed.

Quickly, she wiped her mouth with her delicate arm and embraced me.

Still a bit sleepy, she murmured, "Good morning."

We ate peacefully on the balcony, warmed by the rising sun. We enjoyed eggs and dragon bacon with a few sweet fruits, along with some hard bread we had saved from the village.

Her blue pajamas fluttered calmly in the wind, and golden-tinged clouds leisurely strolled across the equally blue sky.

We talked leisurely about this and that, playfully revisiting the topic of our child's name.

After a while, we returned, Mia sat in front of the mirror, and I combed her long black hair carefully. Through the mirror, I smiled at her and saw a hint of pain in her eyes.

"If all goes well, we'll fetch your parents soon," I said confidently.

She hesitated, sighed and said, "Nevermind that you are saying it everyday. I know myself that everything needs it's time. Otherwise I wouldn't have come with you when you didn't even have this system yet."

I laughed sheepishly and gave her a kiss on the head: "You're right. And thank you for trusting me."

She nodded satisfied, "Hm Hm, but, I thought about it last night, do you think they'll even come? To an empty kingdom? I know that my parents will, but what is with the other peoples."

"I scratched my head thoughtfully, "you're right, but I'm confident that when they see parts of the city they'll stay voluntarily, sooo…it won't be empty for much longer!"

"Sigh, But..., they need to be here to see and who would move to an unknown kingdom, in the land of monsters?"

I smiled at her and knelt down to be at eye level.

"I already have a plan!" I smiled at her with a determined look. I tousled her hair and stood back up.

"Hey!" She hastily smoothed her hair again. "They were just combed!"

"I guess I didn't think about that." I quickly combed her hair smooth again, and we went to the garden. We linked arms and strolled casually through the slowly more familiar surroundings.

As promised, we discussed possible laws, which I casually noted.

I hadn't been much into politics in either life.

There were a few complaints about changes and inequalities, but actively getting involved never crossed my mind.

Nevertheless, I had already envisioned an ideal system in my mind. Here, everyone would be equal, and no child would suffer as I did.

Like I promised to myself; A just land.

However, I didn't want to establish a totalitarian system and have to monitor and enforce everything.

So, in the following month, Mia and I had a lot of work.

We decided a lot, but the following basic laws shou be a guideline:

- Human dignity is inviolable.

- Freedom of speech/ freedom of the press/ freedom of religion.

- Everyone is equal before the law, even the royal family

- Data protection, right to privacy.

- Right to a decent standard of living.

- Right to education.

- Right to property.

These were the most important ones that I immediately programmed into the Central Crystal.

Additionally, there were some labor laws, tax laws, and the like.

They were all a bit rough around the edges but would serve their purpose, and once I had some competent minds later on, they would be refined.

"Hmm, maybe I should create the Administrator AIs next," I pondered scratching my head a little, as they maybe could help in this aspect too.

I shrugged because I felt it could wait.

I was about to move on to the functions of the Central Crystal and its Personal ID when my queen spoke up.

"I'm going to lie down for a bit. I feel a bit nauseous."

I looked at her with concern, placing my hand on her forehead and then her back.

No fever, I sighed in relief.

"I'll carry you!" I declared and lifted her up.

"I'm not that bad," she said, but her expression brightening as she allowed me to carry her to the bedroom.

"Should I stay by your side?" I asked with uncertain words and a crooked smile.

She laughed. "You're exaggerating! I'm fine, just a slight queasiness and tiredness. Hurry, go back to work!"

She waved her hands.

With an uncertain smile, I took a few steps backward.

"Wait!" Mia said, stood up, and gave me a kiss. "And now, finish up so we can fetch my parents!"

Relieved, I turned around and felt pushing hands on my back. Outside the door, I heard the soft creaking of the bed springs and Mia's relieved sigh.

Back at the Central Crystal, I opened the function window and was impressed.

Not only was there a wide selection, but you could also create new functions and modify each one as desired, using a bit of magic.

It was specially tailored to the owner and linked to their consciousness, but due to privacy laws, thoughts were not stored. Only if they were malicious.

Then I would receive a message and could locate them using the GPS function.

The credit card was what it said; there was a bank in each district where you could exchange money for a certain amount of online currency. To ensure no fraud, I stuck to the gold standard.

Everything in the kingdom was magical, so everything was compatible with the IDs. Fortunately, they couldn't be lost, as they integrated into the form of a small tattoo on the wrist.

It's nice and easy, I thought, but having to touch the crystal for it is impractical. Because when a lot of people wants to register it would need a lot of time.

It had the format of a phone, beautifully designed, with our emblem and a few watermarks like veins on the edges.

For sub-functions, there were separate boxes that could be opened to display an overview. Like apps on a mobile phone.

Apropos I pondered, maybe I could create something like real apps in the future.

But for now I was quite satisfied and in good spirits.

So I wanted to create small sub-crystals with the ID creation function as soon as possible, so I quickly retrieved mana crystals from the magma.

I created four and placed them as planned. One in each district hall.

"Now I just have to make sure everyone gets one to maintain law and order."

I glided through the castle up to the tower.

I knocked gently on the door and entered. It was warm and cozy, but there was also a sweet scent in the air.

"Hmm," grumbled Mia as she turned in her sleep, her beautiful face hidden under the hair.

I sat down beside her on the bed and moved her gently.

"Mia?" I whispered in her ear.

Sleepily, she opened her eyes and sat upright, her hair completely tousled and her eyes half closed.

"Hmm?" she asked, stroking her hair out of her face and mouth.

"It's done," I replied gently.

Including the blanket, I took her in my arms like a princess and carried her through the castle.

"What's done?"

"The central crystal," I said, and upon reaching the Crystal Room, I pointed to it.

"I don't want to keep you awake for long!" I laughed, "but I thought you'd be pleased to see that we're done here and can fetch your parents tomorrow!"

Her eyes opened brightly, and she exclaimed, "Yippee!"

Then Mia hugged my neck and gave me a kiss.
