Chapter 140

A deafening explosion echoed through the air. 

Ron instinctively turned his gaze toward the source and saw a massive gap in the middle of a building. Flames licked through the structure as debris rained down, sending people below scattering in panic. 

"An air explosion?" Ron muttered. 

The scene quickly descended into pandemonium. Guests at the auction began fleeing en masse, unwilling to remain even though the event wasn't over. After all, the attacker's motives and capacity for destruction were unknown, and nothing at the auction was worth risking their lives. 

Ron's sharp eyes locked onto several figures amidst the chaos. 

A young man with short black hair stood at the centre of the action. The air explosion that had caused such devastation was his doing. 

Not far from him, a sharp-eyed blonde woman wielded a sniper rifle, taking precise shots at key members of the world mafia, particularly its high-ranking officers. 

Another figure, a bald, burly middle-aged man, was clearly an Enhancer, exuding a physical presence that dominated the battlefield. 

The final figure was another blonde woman, who had conjured heavy weaponry through Conjuration—her delicate appearance a stark contrast to her weaponry. 

These four individuals had thrown the entire venue into disarray. 

"Four Nen users, all of C-rank strength," Ron observed. "Their aura levels are decent, but I need more data to assess their overall combat capabilities." 

Their presence reminded Ron of someone. 

Back in Aurean, while infiltrating a weapons factory, Chii had slipped in undetected. However, the world mafia had noticed another intruder—Jin, a Transmuter whose ability turned living beings into human bombs. 

Jin's devastating powers had once overwhelmed even the Underworld mafia's top operatives, and his combat strength had outclassed members of the Seven Deadly Sins. Jin was rumoured to be one of the last remnants of the Republic Gorteau—a small nation destroyed by the world mafia. The survivors of Gorteau carried a deep hatred for the mafia, and this hatred was likely fueling the attack. 

"Is this their attempt at revenge for Jin's death and the destruction of Gorteau?" Ron shook his head. This was not a matter he planned to involve himself in.

### Morena in the Chaos 

Through the commotion, Ron's attention was drawn to Morena. She was being escorted out by the middle-aged woman, but Morena kept glancing back as if searching for someone. 

Ron quickly deduced she was worried about him. With a simple thought, he sent her an email to reassure her. 

But Ron had no intention of leaving the venue. As an observer, his focus was on analyzing the situation. This invasion of the Yorknew auction by attackers targeting the world mafia presented an opportunity to advance his observational skills to a higher level. 

Ascending to the rooftop, Ron surveyed the chaos below. He compared the current events to the Phantom Troupe's infamous invasion of Yorknew in the original storyline. 

The conclusion was clear: "These attackers are nowhere near the level of the Phantom Troupe." 

"The Shadow Beasts haven't even been deployed yet, and the Underworld mafia has only sent a single senior operative to intervene." 

The operatives in question were a mix of security forces hired by the mafia and bodyguards brought by various families—individuals like Kurapika in the original storyline, who was hired by the Nostrad family rather than the Underworld mafia itself. 

Despite the limited resistance, the attackers were already beginning to retreat. 

The mafia noticed this immediately. 

"Don't let them escape!" an elderly man bellowed from a high vantage point, his expression twisted in fury. "Kill them all! Leave no survivors!" 

The bald Enhancer stepped forward. "I'll hold them off! Go!" 

The blonde Conjurer retracted her weapon first, sprinting away at an impressive speed, putting as much distance as possible between herself and the venue. 

But before she could get far, a shadow streaked through the air. 

"Shhk!" 

Her eyes widened as she felt a sharp pain. Looking down, she saw dark blood dripping from her wound. The attack had been laced with poison. 

"Mira!" the black-haired man roared, rushing toward her. 

"Boom!" 

An air explosion forced Wild Dog back, but the manoeuvre boxed the attackers in, cutting off their escape route. With more Shadow Beasts closing in, their defeat was inevitable. 

"It's over," Ron concluded with a shake of his head. 

At the onset of the attack, Ron had anticipated a fierce battle. But after observing the attackers' performance, he quickly realized they were outmatched.

### A New Encounter 

As Ron descended toward another exit, a figure sped past him—not running but thrown. 

It was clear the person had been struck. 

Ron glanced at the figure briefly, intending to ignore them. But before he could continue, a green-skinned figure stepped into his path. 

It was Lizard, one of the Shadow Beasts. 

Ron's expression remained calm. 

Ron and Lizard had crossed paths before in Aurean, though Ron had used a Zoldyck family technique to alter his appearance slightly. While not as sophisticated as Illumi's methods, it was enough to keep Lizard from recognizing him. 

"I have no connection to them. I'm just an ordinary guest here for the auction. Here's my invitation," Ron said, presenting the document. "Do what you want—I'm not involved." 

Lizard narrowed his eyes. "Have we met before?" 

"Does it matter? Let me pass," Ron replied indifferently. 

"You're here. That's enough reason to hold you. Whether you're innocent or not will be determined later," Lizard said, reaching for Ron. 

Ron sighed, his tone laced with irritation. "I was going to let you go. Why insist on dying?" 

As Lizard moved closer, a shadow emerged—Baki, Ron's Nen Beast. It coiled around Lizard, immobilizing him instantly. 

"Thud!" 

Killer Queen appeared behind Lizard, swinging a club toward the back of his head. A silent explosion followed, obliterating Lizard's head completely. 

Ron turned to the nearby bushes. 

"Come out and follow me," he commanded. 

When no response came, Ron parted the bushes to find the blonde girl who had been thrown earlier. She was unconscious but breathing steadily. 

After a moment's hesitation, Ron picked her up and carried her away.

Back in his hotel room, Ron used Chii's abilities to evade surveillance effortlessly. 

The blonde girl lay quietly on the carpet, still unconscious but breathing steadily. 

Ron inspected her injuries, determining that the damage was primarily from the impact—nothing life-threatening.
