Kale smiled when he heard Zach agree. His smile was warm and gentle, full of kindness and empathy.
"You have made a decision that I am sure you will never forget. But before I answer the question you have been really curious about, let me tell you first what we are and what we represent." Kale slowly said as he took a sip on his black tea.
"Do you know what mystic power is?" Kale asked as he raised his left hand and a wisp of fire magically appeared on it. Although it was Zach's first time seeing this so called 'mystic power', he was not that surprised as he had already experienced a lot of strange things this day. Nonetheless he was still a little bit impressed by what he saw.
"It is the latent power that is deep within the ones who've awakened. The extreme torture that you have experienced is an indication that you have awakened inside you mystic powers."
"Now mystic powers aren't just simply about making fires and controlling them. No, it is a lot vaster than that. There are 4 specializations on mystic power, and what I'm going to say is very important because you are going to specialize on one of them."
"First are Spiritual Mysticists, and I am one of them. To manifest our power in the real world, we make a contract with what we call 'Spirits'. There are many kinds of spirits; like fire, water, earth, wind, and even a lot more than that. They are like a separate organ that resides on our body, so that we can conjure mystical powers, just like what I am doing." Kale explained as he willed the fire to change shapes and fly all around the room.
'Kale probably made a contract with a fire spirit. Is this specialization powerful or not? I kind of want to control fire just like Kale, it will definitely make me a lot cooler.'
"Second are Physical Mysticists, May is an example of what a Physical Mysticist is. They channel their mystical powers inside their body to enhance their physique and their physical abilities. Some can exert inhuman feats of strength and some can perform extraordinary speed and agility."
'I don't want to be a muscle head, I don't want myself to be really huge. Just the thought of it makes me shiver. I like my body the way it is.'
"Third are Psychical Mysticists, they primarily use their minds to invoke their mystic powers. They mainly use their powers to conjure illusions, control other people's emotion, and control physical objects using only their minds."
'What if they read my mind? I got to stay away from those kinds of people.'
"And Lastly are the Artefact Mysticists, I do not know a lot about them as the way they use their powers is really different to rest. They make what we call a 'bond' with a normal object, and the way they make use of their mystic powers depends on what they bonded with. I once saw a person who was an Artefact Mysticist and what he bonded to was a sword, the way he used his mystic powers was to make it sharper and harder than normal. That is why we also call it the most difficult specialization of the four, because you can only learn about your mystic power thoroughly if you are in a school that specializes in artefacts that are the same as yours."
'I don't want to be an Artefact Mysticist, studying how to use my power without anyone teaching me is going to be really hard.'
After explaining all of the different kind of mystic specialties, he drank his black tea to wet his dry mouth. Kale then looked at Zach, only to see him smiling foolishly, it was as if he had already picked what he wanted to be and could already how cool looking he would be.
"What are you smiling about? You can't choose what specialization you want, it is already determined when you awakened. We just need to know what it is. So wipe that dumb look in your face." Kale told Zach smugly, happy to burst his bubble as just like Zach when he first awakened, he chose to be a Psychical Mysticist but was harshly hit by reality.
"Why didn't you say that earlier then if I didn't even get to choose what I want in the first place?" Zach embarrassingly asked, his face red, as he realized that Kale already knew what he was thinking.
"So that you know a simple idea of what the different mystcists are and what they can do. Now that that is out of the way, what I am now going to tell you is how we are going to know what kind of mysticist you are going to be. The way to know it is; if when you the hold the mirror, and it broke, you are a Physical Mysticist; if the mirror blurs, you are a Psychical Mysticist; if the mirror shows a vague silhouette, you are a Spiritual Mysticist; and finally, if the mirror vibrated, you are an Artefact Mysticist."
"Are you sure it's as simple as that? Don't you have to make a ritual for it? What if it broke? Do I have to pay for it?" Zach was scared of touching the mirror. Because when he looked at it earlier, he felt something really abnormal and he didn't have money to pay if it broke in his hands.
Perhaps realizing something, Kale assured him that it was safe and nothing was going to happen to Zach.
"Did you watch your reflection in the mirror earlier? What you felt was just an illusion from a seal I put in it, and also I've already turned it off. It helps keep it safe as that mirror is a really special artefact. Don't confuse it to what Artefact Mysticist bond with though, those are called 'life artefacts'. As for the mirror breaking, don't worry, it has a self-repair function."
Kale then lifted up the glass bell that which encased the mirror. He grabbed the mirror and gave it to Zach for him to hold.
"Why didn't something happen when you touch the mirror? Shouldn't it have showed a vague silhouette? How come I didn't see anything?" Zach asked, relieved that he did not have to pay if it broke, though he did not yet grabbed the mirror.
"It's because unlike you that had not controlled your mystic powers yet, I have full control of it and the mirror could not sense it." Kale answered, he was amused when he noticed that Zach still had not grabbed the mirror from his hand.
"What if I am a mysticist with more than one specialization? What would happen to the mirror?" Zach excitedly asked, still ambitious at the fact that he might be the protagonist of the world and thus might have more than one if not all of the specialization.
Kale finally laughed out loud. He realized that although Zach seemed mature, he still had an inner child inside that had very big ambitions.
"Never in this world had a person awaken to be a mysticist with more than specialization. However, you might become the first. Who knows?"
'There is always a first to everything, and I will be the one that will have more than one specialization. Mwahahaha!'
Zach, imagining his future achievements as a powerful mysticist, finally grabbed the mirror.
"What do I do now?" Zach asked, perplex as nothing had yet to happen when he already held the mirror in his hands.
"Just wai-" Kale wanted to reply, yet as he started to answer the mirror finally showed a reaction.
The mirror levitated away from Zach's hands and emitted a bright and sacred aura. It was as if it was showing something so divine that it had to show it in the grandest manner that it could. It floated in the air for about five seconds, and yet when it was finally time to show the result, the mirror broke, as if all the magnificent splendour it hand displayed earlier was just a sham. The mirror dropped on the ground and repaired itself magically.
While all of this was happening respectively, Zach and Kale wore an expression of great wonder and intrigue, yet when the mirror and dropped down to ground, their faces were changed into stupefied expressions.
"Was it supposed to be like that? It was so glorious yet it just cracked and fell down. Does that mean that I'm an Artefact Mysticist?" Zach asked while still perplexed at what happened.
'What the h*ck was that? I thought it was going to be the beginning of my story to greatness and power.'
"I have never seen the mirror react like that. I guess you really are special. Try touching it again just to make sure if you really are an Artefact Mysticist." Kale responded, still bewildered at why would the mirror do something like that.
Zach picked up the now repaired mirror from the ground. However it did not replicate what it did earlier but instead just broke directly. Seeing what happened, Zach let the mirror fix itself again and tried to hold it again repeatedly, in denial that he was going to be an Artefact Mysticist. But no matter how many times he did it, it still broke again and again.
"I guess I really am an Artifact Mysticist." Zach sighed at the fact that what he was going to experience in the future would be problems and hardships. At the very least, he wasn't unfamiliar with those terms.
What object would Zach bond with?
This is the power system of this story. I already have it all fleshed out in my notes, and I am really proud of what I've came up with. I hope you guys will like it!
