Watching The Funeral From Above

I was always told that I wouldn't see my own funeral or that I was going to live a long and healthy life, well sadly I was only sixteen when I died. The death was so quick I didn't even see the face of my killer, all I heard was Bang then before I knew it I was down on the ground slowly giving into the light hoping that the afterlife would be nicer than this life.

From what I understand right now I'm not in heaven nor hell, it was just the in-between where you're the only one, no one to tell you where to go, no one to help you figure out how to leave this place, the only thing you can do is watch your friends and family mourn over you and wait till the funeral.

Here I was just a ghost waiting for some sort of sign as to where I was heading, mind you most people want to go to heaven, but for me, I had some sort of obsession with wanting to go to hell even though I hadn't done a single thing wrong in my life, but something inside me wanted to see what it was like.

While I watched my own funeral I saw all of my friends and a few people I didn't know but saw a few times.

Once the service was over everyone slowly paid their respects one more time before walking to their cars while the rain was starting. Everyone had cleared out within ten minutes and there I was all alone again, sadly I could not follow anyone and stay near them, I've tried many times but every time I get pulled back into this small black abis.

Time felt like it wasn't moving but from what I gathered an hour or so after everyone had left the grave a sealed envelope appeared in front of me. It had a red wax seal that had an imprint of two staircases, one going up and one going down.

This was it! The time where I would get the verdict of which way I was heading, I wanted to open it so badly but at the same time, I was scared. I had no clue who choose where people go and I for sure didn't really want to go to heaven and find peace or happiness on their terms. I wanted to go somewhere where I got to choose how to live out entirety.

I went ahead and slowly opened the letter. Once I pulled the card out everything went a bright white, I knew this meant I was heading upwards. Before I knew it a pair of angel wings appeared on my back and the letter said Fly Upwards and we can talk about your dream.

I did want to try to get my place changed but I had no clue if they would let me. The only choice I really had was to fly up, but some part of me didn't want to for some odd reason. I also had no clue how to use these wings so the only thing I think I could do was jump.

After a few attempts of jumping, I finally got it so I could somewhat fly. The letter said to fly up but from the looks of it I would just hit a wall, but I just kept going up anyways even though I was getting kinda close to the wall. When the wall came right in front of my head I couldn't slow down at all, I thought I was going to die again if that was even possible.

To my surprise I went right through the wall and was treated by blinding white lights, So this was heaven I thought to myself.

Right away I was treated by a young girl, "Ah you must be the newest one! I have you marked down to talk to god about a switch, Is that right?"

I looked at her for a few seconds before answering, "Uh yes I believe that's the plan."

She gave me a small glace that said follow me, as we both headed up I was starting to see why people would want to come here instead of hell, everything was made for each person's personal lifestyles and personality. The one thing I found that I didn't like was everyone was in their own little box when alone.

It only took about five minutes to reach the very top where sat in a golden throne was the one and only god and a cat. The young girl left as soon as he looked at her, there was some silence between the two of us which gave me time to fully examine what he looked like.

Unlike what people and books had described him as he was nothing like it, he had short black hair, no beard, he looked pretty young and just looked like he was an average guy. With one quick movement, he was right beside me, "So you're the one who doesn't want to be here then, well if you don't mind me asking why wouldn't you want to be in a place like this when all your life you have been a good person?"

I stood there for a few seconds not knowing what to say, I didn't want to insult him by telling him that this place was horrifying for me or that I just didn't see the point of staying here the rest of my life which was forever.

He just kept staring at me like he could read my mind, which he probably could, kinda creepy if you ask me.

I was just about to say something when he gave me a pen and paper, "I can see why you don't want to be up here, I can give you to option to change places only because you're so young and you have a relative dow in hell this is more than willing to swap places with you. The only thing is I can't tell you who this person is and how they died. All you have to do is sign this paper and your transfer will happen. What'd you say wanna stay here or swap places with a loved one?"

When it came down to the choice I knew what I wanted, but would my choice have negative effects on this place? will more people want to switch? all this was sitting on my shoulders like it was a trick question. In the end, I finally decided to sign the paper, but while I was writing my name I could feel this mans staring at me as I had just made the wrong choice. I was happy with my choice and nothing could really change that, not even knowing who in my family I was switching with.

As I lifted the pen off of the paper I could feel my white wings disappear and a new black pair appeared, my once blonde hair turned a dark brown and my eyes were a bright red, but the most painful part of this process was the two horns that grew out of my head and the tail that just appeared. After I quick glance in a mirror, I could feel myself being pulled down.

I gave a quick salute to god as I was being pulled farther and farther the last glance I got of him was a small glare then all I saw was a black void. Below me, I saw lava, burnt bricks, a few castles in the distance and surprisingly an elevator. I landed perfectly on my feet and took a quick glance before I was being dragged away from what it looked like was a gnome just with a tail.

He took me into a room without saying a word then bowed and walked out closing the doors.

It was so dark in the room I could not see a thing but out of nowhere a voice come out of the shadows, "Welcome to hell Dearie!"
