Chapter 2

What was soo important that he had to tell me this night that couldn't wait until tomorrow,

"I'm all ears!" I simply replied .

"Uhm, well, I kinda have a girlfriend now."

".. ??!!?!"

I was speechless and dumbstruck at the same time, somehow my brain just kept on repeating his words like a broken tape in my head 'i have a girlfriend' a GIRLFRIEND?!, What??, here I was practicing how I was going to confess my feelings to him, not knowing he was already taken. I felt soo... Just then we heard my step dad's footsteps and it sounded as though he was heading towards my room and that was enough to break the trance which I was in. So I gathered the little energy left in me to bring words out of my mouth.

"W-who is she?" I asked barely audibly, it sounded more like a whisper but it was loud enough for him to hear.

"I'll tell you tomorrow at school, I promise. But right now I gotta go cus it sounds like your step dad is coming"

And after saying that, he left through the window he came from and I was left standing there in the middle of my room, staring at the space he just occupied a few moments ago.

Just then, my step dad knocked on my door and asked if I was okay, probably because he saw my room lights still on.

" Sweetie, are you alright? Why aren't you asleep yet?" He asked. I had to think of an excuse quickly or he'll figure out something was wrong, so I just blurted out whatever came to my mind

"Y-yes dad, I'm just saying my prayers" I immediately regretted my lack of lying skill, it was too late to take back my words.

"Very funny, did you forget that we've already said our night prayers??"

Yeah, that's why I regretted what I said, we've already said our prayers.

"Uhm, well, I-i-i ..." I couldn't think of anything reasonable excuse that would justify me being awake this late, my brain was still recovering from the shock it received earlier.

"Stop with your silly excuses and go to bed, right now!!"

He left no room for excuses, so I just had to adhere to his orders.

"Yes dad, right away ".

****The next morning****

I woke up, took my bath, I dressed up. I was putting on the dress that I had bought specially for school today, I packed my bag and went down to get breakfast cus there was still a little time to spare.

When I got downstairs, unsurprisingly my step dad was already done with preparing breakfast, when he saw me,

"Nope, no no! Go up and dress properly like a student!" He said. And me being an obedient good girl who always does as my father says, I turned started heading up back to my room to change my clothes. But just as I started climbing the stairs, my dad received a phone call and it sounded like an emergency...

"Kids! Eat up your breakfast and go to school, I'm sorry I can't drop you guys off at school, it's just that an emergency came up so I really have to be on my way "

And after saying that, he turned and grabbed his coat and car keys and he left. Did I forget to mention that my step-dad is a medical doctor, a surgeon in particular. So my sister and I are used to him running off like this. so it wasn't a surprise to any of us and he'll later end up coming back home around midnight, I wonder how he survives cause as for me, waking up early in the morning just for school is  already annoying enough, I'm not sure I would survive if I was to have a job like that, and he still manages to wake up earlier than my sister and I every morning, just to make breakfast, I really admire him. Just then my sister tempted me with a great offer.

" Daph, why don't you go with this dress that you love" she said.

"But dad said I should change it". I replied, I already knew what she was up to, I knew that her mischievous smile all to well.

"Well... who's gonna tell him?" She asked, she would do this and later on blackmail me to hide one of her nasty secrets, but I really wanted to look good today cuz it's the first day after the summer break and I was really looking forward to wearing this dress today, so I just had to accept her offer.

"Fine! You win. But what do I have to do in exchange for this favor" I sighed.

She chuckled and said "you know me too well. Right now I don't really have anything in mind so I'll just let you know when you're back from school."

"Okay".

So we ate our breakfast, headed to school. Emily had already finished eating and left me to do the dishes. So when I was done, I came out to get a taxi when I suddenly heard someone yelling my name...
