Chapter Eleven

The water felt like cold pieces of cloth slapping around my body repeatedly. The vent was dark, we couldn't see a thing. I just hope no creature lives in here. I kept imagining my feet got pulled by something and will drag me deep underwater. I've been holding onto my dad's backpack for minutes. I could hear my brother gasping every few seconds as he held onto mom's backpack. I think they're just a few centimetres back. We were flowing through the vent that goes out of the city. It was pitch-dark. We could only use our sense of hearing and touch if we were to need it for survival. It was silent as well. Only the sound of water droplets from the ceiling above echoed. I think they're coming from pipes. The water is not too far from the top. If my dad stretched his hand up, he could reach it. I never expect the dome to be this thick. Because the longer we are in the vent, it means the thicker the dome glass is. I guess it felt very long, but to be honest, I think I saw the techbots on the bridge earlier only a minute ago.

'Dad, how are we going to put on our spacesuits?' I asked.

'We'll use it when we need it' he replied very calmly.

'We'll die if we don't!' I said. I'm seriously very scared.

'Trust me Zac'

After that, I kept quiet. Thoughts ran wild in my mind. A moment I kept thinking about whatever creature could be lurking this vent, the next moment I kept thinking what if we die as we exit the vent on the other side? I guess that's for the best. We don't have to worry any longer. Then another scary thought came to me. What if the officials were already on the other side? That's definitely a far worse death awaiting.

'I'm slipping!' Zayne exclaimed.

'Just hold on tightly to my bag Zayne. Never let go' mom said.

'Just hold on Zayne. We're nearing the exit soon' dad said.

He was right. I tilted my head to the right and saw light at the end. My heart beats faster, I was excited to see what's at the end. I was shivering from the cold.
