Soulpower

Soon, Beta left the classroom and headed to his room. Of course, Brian accompanied him. It didn't take long for them to find it with Lores' explanation of where the dorms are located. Once they arrived next to their respective doors, they then entered separately. What Beta saw was a tidy room with a bed and a desk. It wasn't big, but it certainly was enough for Beta. He probably wouldn't have the time to stay indoors much anyway, so it simply wasn't necessary to have a big space. He sat down on the bed, feeling all the exhaustion of the whole day overwhelming him. Beta fell asleep quickly. When he woke up the next morning, he saw that there was another door in his room. Wondering what could be behind it, he opened it, and found out that it's the bathroom. "Of course, it's the bathroom... just what else did I expect it to be?", Beta thought to himself. He took a shower, brushed his teeth and left afterward. When he got out, Brian was already waiting for him.

"Finally, you come out of there. I've been waiting for 15 minutes already!", Brian said while rolling his eyes.

"Why didn't you just knock on the door?"

"Would it have made you prepare any faster? We still have a bit of time before class starts anyway so it's alright."

"True, I would've just told you to wait a bit. Let's go to class. We can just wait there."

With that, they made their way towards class. When they arrived there though, they were surprised.

"We're actually the last ones to arrive? But we still have at least 20 minutes time before class starts...", Brian said while looking at the stares of his classmates.

Beta just shook his head with a smile and sat down on his place. As they waited for the teacher to arrive, Beta and Brian were the only ones to talk. All of their classmates quietly sat there, waiting for the teacher to arrive.

20 minutes later, the teacher finally arrived. It wasn't that he was late, he actually entered the room the second class started, it was just that everyone was much too early.

"Hello, my students!", Lores said, while gliding next to his desk.

Most were asking themselves how he did that, but Beta just thought of it as some kind of weird movement technique. The girls thought it's only natural since their teacher is just that cool and perfect with whatever he does, some of the boys in class noticed their behavior, which made them roll their eyes.

"Today, classes will be rather short. Instead, you will have to do some self-study. Only after you successfully finished your task will you be able to take part in class again. If you for some reason fail, you will be directly expelled from school."

Listening to his words, everyone became very tense. Just what task could it be that they would be expelled if they fail?

"Don't worry, it's close to impossible for someone within this class to be expelled. This is more of a warning for lower classes, but I had to mention it anyway.", Lores said with a teasing smile.

But still, no one was relieved. What if they failed now? Wouldn't it be even more humiliating? Everyone swore in their hearts to give their all in this task, no matter what it is. So, it was really true that their school has a reputation of being too strict to their own students. They really can't slack off or they will lose their place here in Mavic Academy. Lores was glad inside, seeing how the looks of his students became serious and full of determination.

The next moment, Lores held his fist in front of him and then started pointing towards the ceiling with his index finger. Suddenly, a green light came out of it, forming an arrow. Most of the kids who saw that were dumbfounded, some seemed to know what was going on. But none of them had reacted as Beta did. He was staring at the arrow with his mouth agape. "This seems to be a similar technique to what my father used to form the scalpel!", Beta muttered in a voice that only he could hear.

"This, my students, is soulpower. It's exactly what its name says as it is, the power of your soul, gathered at a certain spot and manipulated to form this arrow.", he said slowly, making sure that everyone understood. Afterwards, he flung his finger, shooting out the arrow.

As everyone followed the arrow's movement with their eyes, they saw it piercing a hole in the wall of their classroom, leaving through it.

"This arrow made of soulpower is not only fast, it's also powerful. Of course, at the beginning you won't be able to create one as strong as mine, but it will still have considerable power. But, all this won't help you at all if you are not even able to utilize your soulpower. That's where your task starts. You have one week to gain soulpower. The other classes have a month for this task, but as I said yesterday, our class is special."

When they heard that the time difference is so big, they finally knew why it's so hard to stay in this class, and why they get the best resources. Someone who manages to stay in this class can only be powerful because you'd directly be expelled even if you're just a tad too lazy.

"First, let me tell you about the essentials of soulpower. You saw that my arrow was green, right? Why do you think that is?"

The few who didn't seem surprised by the arrow earlier raised their fingers, indicating that they want to answer the question. Beta and the rest just silently waited for the teacher to explain it, as they didn't know the answer. Plus, it was kind of clear to see that their teacher wanted to explain it himself anyway, so they let him be.

Lores ignored the ones who wanted to answer and simply continued.

"It's simple. The green color comes from my element. I have the wood element, so the soulpower I have is also green. It's one of the many elements that you can get. The most common ones are earth, wind, wood, fire and water. So, now I'll tell you how to gather your soulpower and help you discover your element attunement."

When they heard the last part, everyone started listening even more carefully. They all wanted to be able to use this power, so no one would dare to slack now.

"After class, go to the place which you like the most. A place that makes you feel safe and comfortable. Start listening to your environment and take in a deep breath. Try to become one with it. Adjust yourself and blend in to the area you are in. If you do that for a prolonged amount of time, you will notice that a warm feeling will spread throughout your body, and after some time, you will be able to feel the soulpower inside of you pulsing. Once that happens, you will be able to feel your soulpower at all times. That's your goal for now. After that, you will have to work on how to control and use it efficiently.", after saying that, he stopped for a moment before continuing.

"One more thing, the exercise only works at the place you like the most. So, if you like going to the forest, but want to try manipulating the results of your soulpower, for example, sitting next to fire; you won't be able to advance at all. Nothing will happen nor will there be any changes to your natural attunement. So, don't try to force something which isn't meant for you. There have been cases of clans forcing their kids to learn the fire element because it's their family's forte, but that won't work. Think carefully about it before you choose your location. It would also be best if you're not interrupted when you do it because you would have to start from the very beginning again if that happens."

With seriousness plastered on his face, he checked his students' expressions. Seeing that everyone listed to him carefully, he was satisfied. He doesn't like dealing with stubborn kids from ill-mannered clans or nobles. They always think that nothing is impossible and only blamed the teachers for being incompetent. Thus, there has been a lot of cases where students failed due to their families' pig headedness which resulted with them blaspheming the teachers and the school.

No one moved after Lores finished explaining. They all were either trying to remember everything, or already imagining what kind of element and awesome power they would get. While the others who already know about the process, they just kept quiet and waited for their teacher to leave so that they can finally go out and start with their task already. Noticing the excited looks of his students, Lores gave a smirk and caved in.

"Alright, class is finished. Go now and come back wielding your power." Lores then glided out of the room after finishing what he said, leaving his students alone.

It took Beta quite a while to get out of his trance. The possibility of him gaining the same kind of power his father had used before, overwhelmed him. He'd assumed for a long time and thought that he will never be able to be as strong as his father, but now, he got the chance. He swore to himself that he would definitely succeed and get soulpower, it is what he needed to be stronger. If he didn't want to be controlled and played around with in the future, he would surely need that power.

"Let's go.", Beta said in a cold tone that gave Brian a feeling of cold shower on his back.

"Alright.", said Brian hurriedly, surprised by Beta's cold manner.

He knew that Beta has always been cold at times but this time, he seems to be much colder than usual, with eyes looking like there's fire brimming inside, full of determination. "I guess gathering soulpower is a big deal for Beta, that's why he's like this now. I should be serious and succeed with this task as well. I can't be a burden and be left behind.", Brian thought while clenching his fist. They then left, ignoring what their classmates were doing and entered their rooms.

"Where should I go now? What place makes me feel the most comfortable?", Beta mumbled alone in his room.

He liked being in the forest, but was it really what he liked the most? No. But what is it then?

"Hehe... I know exactly where I have to go.", Beta thought with a smile, so warm that onlookers would think Beta is going home after a long journey.
