Is That Okay?

They went to a popular ice cream chain where they got to choose mix-ins to go with their flavors. Ivy got cake batter with marshmallows while he got chocolate with brownie pieces and cut up Reese's cups. She paid for them both before they went outside to sit at a shaded table.

She seemed perfectly at peace with the world for the first time since they had met all those years ago. She always had a wall between her and everyone else before but now the wall was gone. That was what silence meant to her.

Carson was thrilled for his best friend and felt a special sense of satisfaction for being involved in helping her feel like everybody else.

She was a good person. She deserved peace and quiet after all she had been through.

He gazed at her happily as they ate their ice cream and averted his eyes whenever she looked up. It was easier to admire her now that she didn't know what he was thinking.
