Chapter 29

Ron had just started hearing the running water somewhere ahead when he felt something. He had been using his powers and like usual he was just directing his mind to feel the metal around him and when it felt the metal in the arrow tip which stood out because there wasn't anywhere else with that much metal, the only other little sensation he was getting was from under his feet which he was used to and happened all the time. He had never used his powers like that to locate someone, the sensations were moving with him, keeping the same distance. It was someone following him, probably someone from the camp trying to scare him.

He thought for a second and smiled when an idea came into his head, he focused on the metal objects and started heating them too. Soon enough he heard a yelp and a figure fell from the trees beside him. He noticed at once that this couldn't be someone from the camp, there weren't many girls in the camp so he knew pretty well all the ones there were, and none from the camp had black hairs like that and those cat years. 

"Fuck, you almost burnt my ears off," the girl swore and rose clutching her red ears, she had a thick accent, and was not completely human, there were little features here and there that made her different, like the big eyes, the black tail swooshing, the furry hairs.

"You are the cat burglar!" he shouted realizing. 

"Hah, the very creative name you humans came up with, I am Rin Salut, nice to meet ya, " she said striking a pose like Ron should be happy to meet her.

"Nice to meet you. You are wanted every where and I should be taking you to the guards, what are you doing here, I must take you to the camp, " said Ron.

"I am coming from here," she replied rolling her eyes at Ron's overreaction.

"What did you steal?" he asked.

"Nothing, I was there to deliver a letter, my boss told me to that's the only reason I agreed otherwise you would never find me working for you humans, and since I was doing all of you a favor, I just took my fees with little things like food and these earrings on the way, " she said shrugging.

"You delivered Derek's letter?" Ron asked.

"That's what I said, he didn't have anyone fast enough and someone he could trust so he asked my boss, " she said.

"Then that means, we are not going to war or anything, " said Ron.

"Oh we are, but not with each other, but I can't tell you anything more I am forbidden," said Rin.

Things around Ash were progressing fast, since he was the only human around all these elves, he instinctively felt uncomfortable, he just couldn't take a break, since he had left his home it was the first time he had felt homesick. Just like him probably no one else slept in the city that night. There were heavy patrols outside the city, but still, they could feel the imminent danger. The reinforcements would be arriving in the afternoon the next day, they were all contemplating who would reach them first, they were all hoping for Captain Akash, he was the clear favorite, Ash was now understanding a bit more about who was with which house, Aria's house was the good one, who wanted to maintain their relations with other races, but the houses that Gurg worked for were more orthodox and were getting more and more agitated over the years. 

"They are corrupt and power hungry," Maya who was still by Ash's side explained.

"Don't the dark elves have any houses?" Ash asked.

"No, we don't have anyone as old as the ones in the council, thank god, we aren't that many in numbers, and prefer a bit more independent life, with no old nuts making our choices," she replied.

"Now you just wait and see, when all of them arrive then the real fun will start, and the goblins are going to attack again too, you won't be bored that's for sure," said Maya.

"Can you teach me, how to disappear in the background like you, I think it would be good, since me being the only human I am bound to stand out, especially with this Gurg guy coming," said Ash.

"Oh don't worry you will be an important piece on the board, and I must make sure you aren't knocked off, so it's my headache, not yours," she said. 

"Now, since we have managed to survive today and we don't know how long that will last, let's go someplace private and fool around, I don't want to die like that," said Maya and motioned Ash to follow her out of the common hall where they were going to sleep with about fifty other soldiers near the city gates. Maya took Ash through several corridors until Ash couldn't keep track of where they were going. She kept muttering to herself trying to find a suitable place, then in an empty dark corridor on the top floor, they found a door. Maya looked inside.

"Looks like someone's office, but no one's inside, and there's a nice divan here too, this should do it," said Maya and pulled Ash inside. It was indeed someone's office, with a desk full of scrolls and quills and cupboards full of books and uniforms. Ash had faced an army of goblins, so he wasn't scared anymore but still, his heart had started speeding up as Maya sat on the comfy divan and removed her belt of daggers and arrows. She leaned back and looked at him with an eyebrow raised. Ash removed his sword too. In the dim yellow light of the office, Maya's dark skin shined like the night sky. It seemed like unlike Aria she wanted to get right down to the business. 

She didn't take time to remove the rest of her clothes and leaned back on the bed completely naked.
