Chapter Thirty Seven

The Void Severer, a grand and powerful weapon that was once wielded by a powerful Demigod Martial Artist who had an affinity for Void Magic, an obscure path of Magic. This Martial Artist had personally crafted the Void Severer and had used it throughout his lengthy journey to Godhood which he had eventually succeeded in passing. He had left behind the Void Severer, as he was unable to take it with him, hoping that it would one day find another person who was worthy enough to wield it with the same fervor as himself.

That was the story behind the Void Severer. Although it was quite summarized and not all the details were mentioned, once Kasuyi explained the weapon's origin to Kai, the younger Mage was able to understand how much of an honor it was for him to receive such a weapon.

"B-but... Am I truly worthy to receive such a weapon? I mean- surely, there must be other people who are stronger than I am when it comes to these sort of things." Kai asked, although he secretly hoped that there was no one else in line who could snatch this powerful weapon from him.

"Perhaps, but then again, I'm allowed to play favorites, yes? How can my descendant be here, right before me, and I won't give him a leg up against others?" Kasuyi quirked a brow. "Besides, you now stand on the opposite side, against the Imperial Army and the scummy nobles who run the Army. Surely, you will need something as good as this in order to boost your cultivation speed, and your overall power. I shall spare no expense in seeing you become a great Mage!" Kasuyi's voice rang through the expansive library as he made his declaration.

Kai's eyes got wet and his lips trembled as he heard Kasuyi's words. The older Mage's declaration had truly touched the young boy's heart. After all, he didn't have many friends all the way out here, and aside from that, it turned out that Kasuyi was his ancestor. Although it hadn't really sunk in yet, Kai would surely feel strange when he began to think about the relationship between them. Had his father known this all along? Or perhaps he was just as clueless as Kai about their relation to one of the most powerful Mages to walk the many worlds.

"For now, I shall withhold this weapon. Here is something more simple for you to use." Kai brought out another weapon. It was an identical spear to the Void Severer, but this one had less flourishes and runes. The overall power it emitted was also much less than that of the Void Severer. He passed it to Kai before explaining some information about it.

"This is the Wyvern's Wrath. It's blade was crafted from the sharpest tooth of an Adult Wyvern. It was specially crafted by one of the greatest Dwarven smiths back in the days." Kasuyi explained, a fond look in his eyes. It seemed he had an emotional attachment to either the spear, or the craftsman that made the spear.

"I will cherish this as long as it is with me... Grandpa." Kai bowed as Kasuyi passed the weapon to him. The runic patterns that ran across the shaft pressed into his palm, and the weapon was cool to the touch.

"Hold on, one more thing." Kasuyi reached across the table and gripped Kai's forearm. Kai felt a light sting, and when he looked at his forearm, he saw the tattoo of a dragon winding up his arm. The tattoo visibly spread, reaching all the way up to his shoulder before stopping.

"What's this?" He was curious.

"That, my child, is a sign of your growing bond with the Dragon's Wrath. As you can see," Kasuyi motioned to the tattoo, "It is quite faint. Over time, as you become better with your weapon, it will become darker. For now, there is one perk you can access through the bond you share with the Dragon's Wrath... One of the most basic things you can do with your bond is to store your weapon in a pocket space. Just think about storing it away. Do it, do it."

Kai did as Kasuyi instructed. He concentrated on the thought of making the weapon disappear into a pocket space, and a second later, the weapon was gone. Kasuyi smiled widely when he saw that.

"Wow, you got it on your first try. I know you're good, but you make all those so called 'geniuses' look like scams." The older Mage laughed. "It took me two tries to nail it. You did well."

"T-thank you." Kai stuttered, slightly embarrassed by the praise.

"That will be all for now, child. You may leave; I will send someone to instruct you on how to properly wield that weapon." Kasuyi waved Kai away. "On your way out, call me Liothaire."

The boy quickly got up and bowed, thanking Kasuyi again, before practically running out of the library. Not too long after, the doors opened up again, and Liothaire walked in silently. He stopped before the table and bowed from the waist.

"Lord Kasuyi. This humble servant is at your service."

"Rise. I have something to discuss with you." Kasuyi's icy voice echoed. His friendly demeanor had completely disappeared, turning into a whole different personality. "I believe you have been keeping a close eye on Kai, yes?"

Liothaire nodded at Kasuyi's words, "Yes, I have."

"Good. Then, tell me, what did you find out about his parents?"
