First Moments

Inside a dim lit room in the best inn of Riveredge town laid a young man with black hair and brown eyes. He was shivering in his sleep, as if suffering. The candle on the nightstand kept flickering, even though all the windows and doors were closed. Suddenly, he woke up. With eyes opened as plates and a very loud shriek.

"That damnable system and that damnable god. Hurt a little? Yeah, right. Try getting your spine ripped out of your body and have it replaced with a spiked iron club." That young man was Simon, that has just transmigrated to the world of Zeryann and getting hold of the body of Dane Revari.

He got up the bed and started checking his body. First, he checked his flesh for injuries and then he started touching his bones. Even though he was no doctor, he had read some medical books. Only after confirming everything was ok did he opened the window and stared outside.

The town was exactly as he remembered. One of the features that made Zeryann such a successful game was the creator's attention to detail. Every city, town, settlement, camp was designed and then animated with the utmost care. The game had a playable area the size of a big country. It had a lot of different ecosystems, ranging from the most commonly seen forest to a snowy wasteland.

Of course, Riveredge town was no exception. Simon could remember every nook and cranny of the place. The inn he was in right now was the best the town had, but even then, it was not as good as a small inn in a big city. Simon, now Dane, was pulled out of his thoughts with a not very melodious voice.

"Well, it's not bad. I was expecting a lot worse."

The way Zeryann worked was on the basis of the "Golden Descendants". People sent to the world of Zeryann to help its denizens with the future catastrophe. These golden descendants were, of course, the players of the game. Each of them started the game with every stat in 5 points, except for mana. It may sound low, but once considered that an ordinary person in the world of Zeryann reaches only 3 at adulthood, it was a pretty good indicator.

Every player had 20 points to use once they reached level 5 chose a class. Then, at level 10, the player unlocked the occupational trades and heritages that could add even more points to the stats. Starting from level 11, each class level would grant the player with two stat points for a single class, which they could distribute as they wanted.

Dane just kept staring out the window but was not paying attention to the landscape or the like. He was just reading the messages the system sent him and thinking of his future. About 10 minutes later, Dane just sighed and started to gather his possessions. For the son of a duke, there were not many things.

Dane kept about fifty gold coins, an almost obscene amount of money for the average Joe, but not nearly enough for what he had planned. There was also a small dagger, a lot of quality paper and ink, three sets of clothes, and a broken magic wand.

Dane searched his memories and found out that his original objective was to travel to the temple of the god of peace, where he could enter priesthood. That was why he had not brought a lot, it would be useless for him. But for the current Dane, it was not enough.

[Ding! Reminding player, you have three items available in your mailbox. Please claim them before tomorrow or the items will disappear.]

"Now I'm a player… this goddam system. Open the mailbox" As soon as Dane said that, an almost transparent HUD appeared in front of him. There were 100 squares, organized in 10 rows and columns. Currently, only three of them were occupied. These were the items that he chose to keep from being converted to materials from the thunder tower. He selected all three of them and materialized them.

Dane then waited for over 10 seconds, but nothing happened. Once he knitted his eyebrows and closed his eyes in frustration, he heard a metallic sound. Opening his eyes, he found out that on the floor was a gold ring with jewels incrusted all over. At the side of the ring, were two scrolls. These were the items he was expecting.

"Seriously?" Said Dane while looking up to the ceiling. "I wait for you stupid system to work, and only after I closed my eyes in resignation you give me what I want? You are no better than that prick, god." Said Dane before he bent over to pick up his items. The Ring of the Eight Dimension was a spatial type magic item. In other words, was a different dimension on its own. It was one of the best items of its kind, so the amount of space inside was almost unlimited. Once, all the lightnings of the 21 Thunders guild gathered every object they could get for over a month just to test the capacity of the ring. After placing every object they gathered, their equipment and all the things inside the thunder tower in the ring, it still could hold more.

Of course, no one would know that the true capacity of the ring was set to be the amount of mass in the world of Zeryann. That meant, so to speak, the space was infinite inside this world. It can even readjust itself. For example, if a meteorite crashed on Zeryann, the ring would adjust its storage limit to include the mass of said meteorite.

The Ring of the Ninth Dimension, on the other hand, had an unlimited amount of storage space, but it was a hundred times rarer than the ring Dane had, so it was a fool's purchase. Of course, only Dane knew it. Placing the ring in his left hand, he sighed.

"The last time I started the game the storage was a pain in the ass. Now, it couldn't be any easier." Dane kept staring at his ring for a few minutes. In his anger, he forgot the most important thing. It didn't matter if it was his own creation, he was now in another world. And possessing the body of another man, for that matter.

He thought of his friends and co-workers. He thought of Earth and its landscapes. He thought of everything he was leaving behind. In the end, he could not help but to shed a tear. He changed his clothes to a travel outfit and kept all of his possessions inside his ring. He left his room in a weird mood; eager to start his adventure but mourning the life of Simon Herrera. That Simon who died of a coffee overdose, that Simon who would never exist anymore, be it on earth or Zeryann. Right now, it was the start of the journey of Dane Revari, the sixth son of a duke.

As Dane was exiting the inn, the first rays of sunlight were aiming straight to him. After squinting his eyes, he steeled his resolve and took the first step in his journey. If the people of Zeryann knew that this was the moment that would one day birth the Shadow Spellsword, who knows what they would think.

Hi there! I know the chapter is very short, but bear with me a little. It is an important chapter, but it cannot include some other stuff. I hope you liked it. Please inform me of any spelling or grammar mistake you might find. Thank you!
