1 Anomaly

In the midst of the year 2020, the sky above Massachusetts and other surrounding states cracked open.

The anomaly lasted for three months. During that time thousands of scientists from around the globe came to the U.S. in order to make sense out of it.

The United states cordoned off the Boston Common and turned it into a site for researchers to study the anomaly.

During June, the third month the anomaly persisted. The anomaly began to slowly spread. This took place late in the month. It was noticeable after an hour.

While all of the scientists went into a frenzy, one man was standing in front of a small pond on the outskirts of the Common. He wore a formal officer uniform of the American Army.

His numerous badges signified his many accomplishments.

With the sun shining on his bright red hair, he threw down the cigarette he was smoking and stomped it out as a soldier behind him stepped forward.

The rifle in his arms shook as the young, the cleanly shaven man stopped beside the officer.

Sir! High command is calling us back., they want us to protect the scientists in the event something were to happen." The young man said as he looked at the slightly dirty pond water.

"I see. Let's get going then." The white man appearing to be in his late 30's said in a raspy voice as he felt the pistol by his side before taking out his phone in his pocket as he turned around.

Looking at his commanding officer, a man with a scar on the left side of his face going in a zig-zag pattern from the top of his eye to his cheek, the soldier looked at his fellow squad mates before stepping into formation.

This resulted in him and another soldier in the front and 2 soldiers in the back with their leader in the middle.

With the two soldiers leading, the group began walking back down the path they had taken to get there, on the way, the leader called his wife.

"Honey, how are you doing? It's been 2 years already. Do you know when you will be able to come home?" A woman's voice came from the phone into the man's ear.

"I'm doing fine Kate, how is Keith doing?" He asked with a small smile on his face as he and his unit walked up and into a gated area with massive white tents and buildings inside.

Hundreds of soldiers from the Army were also moving around like an inside of an ant colony.

"He still misses his dad, he also just turned five last week so you need to bring a present when you get here."

"I'll bring one, don't worry. I should be able to come home soon, after these orders are over in a few months I'll be back in LA in no time at all. Wait for me ok?" He said softly into the phone.

Recognizing his location within the site, he walked up to a giant white building that was guarded with a few American soldiers on the outside that saluted as he approached.

"You know that I will always be waiting for you Cole, we both will. I love you." The woman on the phone said with a slightly sad tone.

"I love you too, tell Keith I love him too, for me, ok? I'll call when I have more free time." The red hair man, Cole, said as he hung up the phone and walked through the entrance of the building followed by his 4 unit members.

After entering the building he was met with a scene of utter chaos.

Running around the building, where dozens of scientists talking loudly while looking at computer monitors and papers on tables.

The monitors were showing many things that Cole didn't understand so he simply ignored it as a young scientist stepped toward him.

"Lieutenant, there was a recent development you should be informed about, courtesy of the research center's top scientists." A young man said as he handed him a folder containing freshly printed papers.

Taking the folder, Cole began reading through the few papers within it before closing it and walking to the nearest monitor.

"So this thing is expanding? Why now? It's been here for 3 months now and has stayed the same that whole time." He asked and one of the scientists looked at him before speaking.

"That is what everyone is asking, they are theorizing many things but our limited knowledge of space makes it hard for us to test our theories." The scientist said before looking at the documents he had created over the past few months.

High above the Boston Common, where the world's best scientists were researching the anomaly, a small black hole began to appear at the center of the spatial crack.

Quickly it began to spread into a diameter of 20 meters.

Within the same building Cole was in, the monitors beginning to shut down one by one as on the screen the graphs and charts they had to monitor the anomaly were fried immediately.

Seeing this, Cole quickly walked outside and went to an empty side of the camp where he could look at the anomaly clearly.

As the wind began to pick up the clouds began to darken slightly as lightning of different colors streaked out of the black hole and spread across the already apparent cracks of the anomaly.

Holding onto one of the lamp posts in the area, Cole watched as something slowly came into view from the black hole and pushed against space like pushing something through a sheet of plastic wrap.

A few seconds later shattering the space above the area like glass as the front end of something began poking out of the black hole.

Hearing the sound of glass breaking within his ears, Cole wondered if the sound was heard everywhere.

Looking at the object slowly break free from the black hole's influence and fly across this sky, he predicted it would land in the ocean.

Looking at its form from a distance, he first thought it was a spaceship but as it streaked through the sky like a meteorite, Cole was barely able to make out the shape of the object.

It was a massive black cube.

Unlike his prediction, Cole noticed the cube was about to impact the ground on the opposite side of the common and not the ocean. Seeing this, he issued orders for everyone to find cover.

Sadly there isn't much they could do in the seconds it took for the object to slam into the ground sending a massive shockwave through the camp toppling the buildings and making the camp look like a disaster struck.

Cole in particular was sent flying into a tree, where he impacted it with his back.

Feeling like he had been hit by a cannon, Cole gasped for air as he slumped down against the tree.

At the same time shouting of American soldiers filled the air as the camp looked as if a hurricane has rolled through.

Slowly moving his shaking hand, Cole tried to take hold of his radio that had fallen off of his waistband and landed a few feet away.

As he was doing so he heard a few questions over the radio from his unit's soldiers asking about his location and condition.

"Damn this hurts..." he said as he coughed up a bit of blood into his stretched-out hand. As his hand finally reached the radio, he felt his vision fading while in his mind he remarked.

"Isn't this some bull-"
