His arms slowly travelled towards her waist as he
embraced her from the back. She could feel his breath along hers
as he rested his chin atop his shoulder.
"I'm sorry," he whispered.
Emmie only sat there quietly. It looked like there was
still a hint of hope in her eyes but it was too dim to see.
"I'm sorry that I did something stupid," he added,
tightening his hug around her body. "I'm sorry that I chose to act
like that because I realized you are too young for me," he
continued. "You deserve someone better and I'm sure... I'll be
able to find a suitable woman for me."
Upon hearing his breaking words, she stiffened in place.
She already knew what was coming yet she was still foolish
enough to believe in such a blinding small light.
Her lips automatically curled into a bitter smile, her teeth
gritting.
She removed his arms around her waist and stood up
with a big strode however, he caught her wrist.
He embraced her once again, only to make Emmie feel
miserable inside.
"I'm sorry," he muttered again. Strength was already
leaving her from the breaking scene as she felt her cheeks wet
from the liquid pouring down. "I like you, honestly. I like you,"
he added. "But... you're too young for me and I won't be able to
marry you."
Those words left her into a crumbling state. She couldn't
speak nor can she feel herself throughout the dinner yet managed
to act the same.
A bitter smile crept into her face.
Oddie only loved her for her body but never for her
feelings. He was only there for lust and not for love; it's bitter.
As the sun rose the next day, she got up and stretched
her arms into the thin air. Her eyes felt sore from all the crying
but she chose to act strong and giddy.
She turned off the alarm clock from her bed side and
decided to do her morning routine. Upon noticing how swollen
her eyes, she applied more makeup than usual and exited her
room.
There was no point in mopping anyway. The day is still
too young and how everything seemed so peaceful. She needs to
stay positive and move on from life.
As she made her way towards the staircase, she met with
Miranda and Alfred at the same dining table.
"Good morning," they all greeted.
Emmie closed the distance between the three of them
and sat across an empty seat.
"What happened to you last night?" Alfred asked upon
seeing her grab a bread and jam.
"Are you not feeling well? We're worried about you. We
waited for you up until late last night but I didn't see you at all."
Miranda added with a concerned voice.
She mentioned it to them yesterday that she'll be having
dinner at the sibling's house and yet she didn't touch the food.
"Actually, I was already there when I suddenly felt my
stomach aching. I had to go home early and you guys probably
missed me," she lied.
"But your eyes looked swollen. Did you cry last night?"
Alfred asked. She nodded in response.
"Yes, I suddenly missed my parents," she replied,
expressing a lonely look on her face.
"I understand you," Miranda reassured, touching her
hand gently onto the table. "I do remember my mother every
time I feel sick and most especially when I'm lonely," she
added.
A thin smile crossed her lips. She's lucky to have friends
who care for her so much yet it doesn't seem right because of the
secret she's keeping. They have no idea about what she's going
through.
"Emelia Valdez," a voice called. Her attention then
shifted towards the front of the class, only to make her feel
embarrassed.
If only Earth can swallow her whole already, she would
be grateful
