She was an albino, tall with brown boots and yellow dress. Jason couldn’t make out her face from the distance he was standing. ‘Are you the new help?’ Naya asked without looking up. She was placing plates on the tables. ‘No…I am …’ Jason was puzzled that the albino had an accent ‘Don’t just stand there, start setting dinner plate on the table. We have less than five minutes before dinner’ she said without waiting for Jason to introduce himself. Jason dropped his briefcase by the door and carried the pile of plates near the window and started distributing across the table. When he got close enough to her, he saw her face. She wasn’t an albino, she was white. And she was stunning. She looked up and stared at him. ‘You don’t look like a help’ Naya said and her face was expressionless. ‘Probably because I am not, I am Jason and I am your new boss’ Naya stared at him and blinked twice. ‘Do not forget to place the spoons beside the plates, boss’ and she went back to what she was doing, leaving a puzzled Jason to stare at her in shock.

CHAPTER SIXTEEN

'Where are you, Jason?'

McKenna thought while looking at the mirror that hung few inches above the floor of her room. She will never admit it to anyone including her best friend but she wasn't fine and she has lost weight too. Lately, nothing seemed to hold McKenna's interest, not work and definitely not friends. In a few hours, she will turn twenty and when that happens she wants to be in club with loud music, where thinking was impossible.

She pulled on the red slutty gown; Elena gave her three weeks ago as a birthday present and a pair of black heels. Elena and McKenna have a deal in place, McKenna only allowed Elena to give presents to her only if it was few weeks before her birthday and it mustn't be called birthday gift and so Elena got creative, so far there has been – moon day gifts, friendship anniversary gifts e.t.c. Any excuse getting McKenna a gift in her birth month.

After making sure her make-up was perfect. She picked the black pulse on the bed and counted the money inside and as an afterthought, McKenna picked the nude color bag on the floor, ransacked it until she found the extra cash she shoved into the pulse. Before she left her room, she glanced at the mirror and nodded in affirmation. With the perfect brows, smoky eye shadow and red shade of lipstick, she looked perfect and there was no way people could tell she was broken inside.

After locking the door, McKenna made her way outside. The Uber she ordered was already outside the veranda waiting for her and she entered the car only after she checked to see whether the plate number in the Uber app matched the car parked in front of her.

McKenna exchanged pleasantries with the Uber man and checked her social media handles, her first check of the evening was her Instagram account. After exercising self control by not checking Jason's Instagram page, she posted a picture she took earlier that day with a hashtag blessed. She was smiling so brightly in the picture and she made sure everything about her was in order.

She logged off from Instagram and replied Elena's text on Whatsapp. She dropped her phone inside her pulse but after a few seconds, a text came in and she picked it up again. It was an Instagram message from Tony.

Few weeks ago, McKenna met Tony through a mutual friend at work. Her co-worker Yemi gave her number to a second cousin or something like that without seeking permission from McKenna. When McKenna confronted Yemi after getting a call from Tony, whom she knew absolutely nothing about; Yemi looked at McKenna like she did her a huge favor by giving her digits out.

'Tony is my cousin. I think we share the same great grandmother and I was talking to him the other day and he asked whether I knew a good girl that would make a good wife, so I gave him your number' Yemi said smiling like she had done a huge favor to someone undeserving.

'Thank you, Yemi but….' McKenna was interrupted by Yemi before she could finish talking.

'I know you will be grateful. I shouldn't be telling you this but this cousin of mine is very well to do, he has money and he will treat you well'

'Yemi, thanks but no. I don't see marriage in my nearest future. Thanks for thinking about me but I am going to ask your cousin not to call again'

Yemi looked at McKenna like she just lost her mind. She understood why a woman would pass on an opportunity to have such a great catch like her cousin, Tony. She can deny it from now till forever but part of her wished she wasn't related to Tony, so she could marry him, herself.

After the conversation, Yemi nodded and went back to work and since then has been giving McKenna the cold shoulder.

How are you doing today? The Instagram message from Tony said. McKenna wanted to ignore the message but she has never been one to ignore another human being and so she texted back that she was fine. After going through some of the popular celebrities post online, McKenna decided to check Jason's Instagram page.

Last seen thirty minutes ago.

Jason came online after a few weeks but he didn't bother to leave a message for her. No hi or hello even how are you doing today?

McKenna's mind was a mess. She came down from the car after she paid the Uber driver his fare. The club was packed with people and the music was really loud just the way McKenna liked it. She went straight to the bar and ordered a bottle of cold beer. She sat there for a minutes sipping her drink when someone sat beside.

He was average height with a gorgeous face and a pointed nose like a cartoon character. He sent a smile to McKenna and she smiled right back at him.

'Can I buy you a drink?' he asked loudly over the almost deafening music in the club

'What?' McKenna asked

'I am asking if I can buy you a drink' he said, he was louder than the last time.

'No thank you but if you like we could go to the dance floor, I really want to dance'

McKenna stood up and went to the dance floor with the man behind her. They both danced for some minutes and held each other. McKenna looked at him and without thinking, her mouth found his.
