"I figured you had gotten distracted and weren't going to come," Ariana sniffed and watched his face fall.

"No, no, kitten. Never. I'm sorry, I'm late. I was helping Ariana's parents' shop and then traffic wasn't with me. I'm so sorry, Ari." Carter shut the door, pulled up another chair, and sat down beside her.

"My parents?" Ariana searched his gaze, as he took her hands in his.

"Yes, I wanted to keep my promise that I had made years ago to you. I'm sorry that I had set it aside and forgotten it." Carter searched her gaze and ran his fingers along her cheek to brush her hair behind her ear. "I promise I won't do that again. I'll keep my promises."

"What's this about Ariana's parents? Glad that you could join us, Mr. Anderson." Karla placed her hands on the folder in her lap, containing all of their words and notes about them as a couple.
