Choose

I take a deep breath before saying "Then why is it cruel? We will all die at some point." The woman remains silent for a moment before saying "You will not. With our powers, you will not meet the same end as your loved ones." 

I take a step back and fall when my knees buckle. I land on my ass and feel my eyes burning once again. I struggle to get enough air in as I fully grasp what she's saying. Even though I will save them all, I will end up burying them all in the end and be left alone. 

The woman softly says "Not alone. You will have us." Tears silently fall from my chin as I ask "Why me? Why not someone else?" She's quiet again before saying "It has to be a woman. We women can only connect with other women. We have followed many, trying to find the perfect fit and at the end... you are the only one who fits so well."
