Max nodded, his eyes scanning the surroundings. "Let's find shelter. We can't stay here."
With shaky legs, they pushed themselves to stand, both dripping wet and cold. They moved cautiously through the underbrush, the chill of the night settling into their bones. The scent of damp earth filled the air, mingling with the distant sound of rushing water.
Suddenly, a loud crash echoed nearby, sending a jolt of fear through them. Max immediately pulled Sarah behind a thick tree trunk. "What was that?" he whispered, his muscles tense.
"I don't know," Sarah replied, her voice barely above a whisper. "But it sounded close."
As they listened, the noise came again, followed by a low growl. The creatures they had escaped were still in pursuit, their predatory instincts drawing them closer.
"Come on," Max urged, taking her hand. "We need to keep moving."
