THE SECOND BORN'S CURSE

Almathea Bastete is the second-born child of her family. At the age of five, she was abandoned by her parents and thrown to the most desolate place in the house to keep her a secret. In this society where the birth of a second child is illegal, Almathea is supposed not to exist as she should have been killed upon her birth. Her parents do well in hiding her, however, when she turns seventeen, her parents have to make the decision to let her go for her safety and their own. Will she discover why second-born children are shunned in their society and bring back the harmony between the children born second and the rest of the world? What about the underlying danger that is lurking in the shadows, threatening to bring about the end of the world? Do they have the courage to face it all?

Leilani chuckled, "You know I'm kidding. Have you prepared?" she sipped on her tea.

"Yes. I allowed Vera to be in charge of packing all I might need."

"She's already doing things for you, is she now?" Leilani snickered.

Timaeus shook his head, "It seems that she was quite excited about doing that task for me. I couldn't refuse."

"I can imagine." Leilani cringed at the taste the tea left in her mouth, "But, Timmy, are you happy?"

"What do you mean? Why wouldn't I be happy?" he smiled softly, "I cannot say that I truly am happy after Anna's death, but, as you said, we have each other. Thus, I cannot complain."

"What about you, Lex?" they both turned to Lexine who was simply watching her tea as he swirled her teaspoon in her cup.

"Huh?" Lexine looked up once her name was mentioned.

Leilani patted her hand, "It hasn't been easy on you? Has it?" she rubbed Lexine's hand.
