The Beast

Jay would yelp as he narrowly evaded the huge dog by diving forward, noticing that he couldn't make out anything but the sheer darkness it seemed to emit. He would crash into the ground, dirt plastering on his bare neck and the front of his body as he groaned.

"This really is just a sucky day, isn't it?" He would say as he rolled to face the air and get up, seeing that the beast had been watching him very closely.

Jay's stance widened as he made himself bigger by puffing up his chest, putting his shoulders out, and keeping his legs widened. He had learned in school that usually if you make yourself seem bigger than predators they might leave you alone. Might. He would find himself yet again be snarled at and charged by the beast as he turned and stepped back, reeling his arm back as he again narrowly avoided the beast.

He knew that he couldn't simply avoid the beast, because eventually he'd get tired and would be a sitting duck as he could hear the girl from earlier's raspy and strained breath. He would glance quickly to her as he realized she had a large gash across her chest, the gash covered in flower petals, but nonetheless a gash. What came from it was what her skin color seemed to resemble, a light green, pasty like substance.

Jay would shake his head as he looked back to the beast, which snarled, drool pouring down the sides of its mouth, and as it fell to the ground it sizzled on the dry dirt. He now noticed it as his eyes widened, the rain had stopped and it seemed more humid than it had earlier, and all of the moisture in the ground seemed to have been gone, leaving only dry dirt.

Jay would now tuck in his elbows and push together his legs as he put his hands up to make himself smaller. He made his hands fists, approaching the beast as the beast snarled and tore apart the ground thrice before pouncing again. Jay would feel himself lose all his fear, feeling oddly invigorated as he swerved to the side, his legs staying on the ground as he swayed back and sent a powerful blow straight to the cheek of the beast.

The Beast would whimper and growl as it's attack was stopped and it was pushed aside, the beast skidding along the ground as it seemed even angrier than before. It was obvious it had not expected Jay to do this, and Jay would grin nervously in the face of danger as he readied himself for another one of the beasts' attacks.

Jay would seem puzzled as the beast's posture became one of absolute and utter fear, the beast turning and going incredibly fast to escape as he became puzzled.

"Wait... Did I scare it?" Jay would suddenly be cut off.

"No, you didn't." The 'you' was emphasized, as Jay scowled and turned, seeing a tanned boy, no older than 13 or 14. The boy had curls in his hair going down to his eyes, but his dark red eyes could be seen as clear as day, making Jay gulp anxiously.

"Who exactly are you," Jay would inquire, "and what was that?" He pointed to the direction where it had run off to, before his eyes widened in realization. The girl! Jay immediately turned and ran over as he saw the petals from earlier become more in quantity, the wound almost covered.

"She's going to be fine, Nymphs heal pretty quickly when they get the time and water." the boy kneeled and felt the dry and crisp dirt, "And it seems she has."

The Nymph's breathing steadied as the wound became completely covered and the petals would start to disappear, layers swirling off the top and being blown away in the wind as the wound down the middle of her chest dissapeared.

Jay would chuckle nervously as he turned away embarrassed before the Nymph grabbed his hand and smiled to him. Her voice was majestic and smooth, unlike what her demeanor from before suggested, "Thank you, my hero."

Before Jay could react she would disappear, particles of herself glowing and being blown away and sucked into a petal bush near some trees.

"That's a Nymph, incase you didn't know." The boy said as he now stood, walking to Jay as he stretched a little. "My name's Evan, son of Kratos. How about you?"

Jays brows furrowed as he became puzzled, "Wait wait wait, she's a Nymph? Like a flower goddess?"

"Yep." Evan replied.

"And you're the son of Kratos?"

"Yep."

Jay would feel a pang of pain in his chest, as he pushed his hair back with his hands. Okay, so a lot to process. There are gods? Nymphs? Monsters? Jay would find himself overloading himself with thoughts, and that all lead back to his one fear. The Unknown.

He would start to shiver and sweat nervously before Evan would shake him out of it, "You okay, man?"

"Sh-sure. Yeah, I'm fine now." Jay would calm himself down as he controlled his breathing and took deep breaths. "So, w-where exactly am I?"

"Well, that's a hard question, but you're in The Sanctuary! A place for Demigods and any others who are related to the many myths of the world. Now c' mere! Or I'll leave you behind!" Evan would gesture for Jay to follow him, grinning mischievously as he walked forward, into the forest once again.

In fear of being left behind, Jay would stumble forward and follow, "Wait for me!"
