Things had gotten better since I slept. I kept to myself, saying little, which is better. Too much happened between us.

I never saw Sam after that day. For that, I’m thankful. I didn’t want to open myself up to anyone again. Why bother? You end up with pain.

Ryder, Evan, and Frisco were close, but not with me. Our interactions felt too forced. Plus, they acted as if nothing happened, and I became bitter.

I attended school and classes, keeping my head down. I kept my distance from everyone as Junior year ended.

On the last day of school, I walked home alone, lost in my thoughts. I knew people didn’t give a shit about me. I listened to the whispers. Even my family whispered.
