Chapter 5 : Attunement Unlocked

"what? what do you mean by that?". "well in this world Reincarnations are very rare and any that are found are to be sent to the capital to serve under the king". she said with saddened expression.

"why would the king want Reincarnations? are we special compared to others from this world?. "while we are not that special compared to normal people but the kings wants us for our knowledge of advanced technologies and weaponry."

"the 3 nearby kingdoms have been in at war for centuries but its come to a stalemate. the rulers in each country want to try and advance there militaries through the knowledge of Reincarnations so they can have a edge against one another but luckily only people of the age of 18 or under have reincarnated here so no one has come with any substantial information".

"if that's so then how come you have a tanto? I wouldn't think many young people would have the knowledge of Japanese forging techniques and these bastards didnt have a clue of this things origin". she said while glancing back to one of the man's corpses behind her.

"my brother made it. you see back in japan my family ran a forge in a small rural town in Hokkaido, while I wasn't interested in forging my brother learned from young age and was trained by our father who was a master of the art of bladesmithing. he had a large passion for it and mastered our father's teachings in a just a few years".

"he was originally going to inherit the forge when our parents died but a few days after his 17th birthday our family got into a car accident and we presumably all died as me and my brother were brought here. we don't know what happened to our parents and if they survived but considering no one older than 18 has came here from japan we doubt we will ever see them again..." she said as she looked away while trying to hide the pain she was feeling well up inside her.

"its been 2 years since I came here with my brother we have been laying low and trying not to draw any attention while still earning enough to live comfortably. After travelling and going from town to town we eventually set up a shop in a nearby town called Vania after saving up enough gold from doing odd jobs and selling some of my brothers works he made in rental smiths. "while my brother specialises in japanese forging techniques and designs in order to not be suspicious he hasn't sold anything of the like and only made them for me and himself."

"How far is vania from here?" sakura asked after letting kimiko calm down. "I'd say a 2 hour walk, maybe 3".

"good we can get there by sunrise then" sakura thought. "alright, before i let you free i need a few things. 1 : you need to introduce me to your brother and show me where his store is. 2 : you need to give me some basic information about this world, that being how the money works, details about the kingdoms, some basic history, the difference races and anything else I need to know about. Deal?"

"Deal". kimkio said immediately

Standing up she went behind her and cut her legs free using her dagger and then went back around to the front to do the same with her hands. being finally free from the rope she began to stretch her aching body which allowed sakura to get a proper look at kimikos appearance.

she had a slim and fairly muscular build with long black hair that went down to her elbows that matched well with her dark purple eyes. "she doesn't look japanese at all, Well to be fair neither do I now" sakura mumbled to herself.

"did you say something?". "no it was just your imagination" she replied without skipping a beat. "so anyway what was your life in japan like? considering how easily you took down that group of bandits were you in the JSDF or something?".

"yeah something like that..." sakura said which was quickly followed by a awkward silence between the two. "moving on. we should get going as I want to arrive at this so called vania at sunrise". she said while tossing kimiko her tanto back. "while I would love to keep it i cant have you being deadweight if we get attacked on the way to town."

while what sakura said wasn't a lie truthfully she didn't want to ruin her chances at meeting her brother as he would be a extremely useful. if it wasn't for this she would have happily pocketed the tanto and given her the dagger without a second thought.

before they started heading to vania they went to sakura's camp and collected the rest of "her" belongings. while there she also fulfilled her promise and freed the horse after taking off its reins.

"why did you let it go we could have used it to get to town?" kimiko said confused from her decision. "if we rode the horse we would be able to get to vania in no time, I still have alot of questions that you need to answer so if we walk we will have plenty of time to chat." she said with a shit eating grin.

"your a asshole you know that right?"

"what ever do you mean by that? I think I'm a extremely kind and caring person." she said while trying to sound innocent.

"a kind a caring person doesn't laugh like a psychopath while killing a group of people!" kimiko said while remembering sakura's face as she pushed the dagger further into the man's eye while he screamed in agony. "tch, your no fun".

after they were both ready they started to head towards vania as the sun was beginning to rise. while they were travelling kimiko started to explain the differences between this world and their previous one. the world was was very similar to one you would see in anime or manga as there was monsters, magic and a large lack in technology.

the magic works very simply, everyone unlocks there magic attunement at the age of 16 and can never change it or use any other type of magic. what type of magic can vary from something as simple as fire, water, wind and earth to something powerful and unique to a individual or something in-between however the unique cases are extremely rare and barely any have been recorded. when it comes to using magic you either have to create your own spells or use pre existing ones that correspond with your attunement. making a spell is relatively easy but making a spell that can be used at the casters power level is the hard part. to make a spell you only have to picture in your mind what you want it to do however if the spell is to powerful for the caster it will not work at all and potentially even backfire if its too powerful. someone's magical power is set when they unlock there attunement and can't be increased whatsoever. this has apparently led to a natural hierarchy were strong magic users prey on the weak and take advantage of them.

"kimiko you said that everyone gets there magic attunement at the age of 16 but what about Reincarnations as some would have to have come here at over the age of 16 right?" sakura said as she was worried she might not get a attunement.

"even Reincarnations over the age of 16 still get a attunement, my brother was 17 when he came here so he already had his. are you over 16?" " im 17, I'm not that small am I?". " your like 5.2 you cant exactly blame me for not guessing your age correctly". "I'm 5.3 now answer my damn question!" sakura shouted while resisting the urge to punch kimiko.

"fine fine.close your eyes and try to picture what you would expect your soul would look like. After you find it take a closer look at it and you should start to understand what your attunement is and its strength. your strength should appear as a number while your attunement you will be given all the information regarding it.

before closing her eyes she looked at kimiko straight in the eyes and let a little bit of her bloodlust out. "try anything and you will become a corpse before you could even regret your actions."

feeling a chill run down her spine she nodded frantically as she began to build up a cold sweat.

ignoring the condition of her accomplice sakura closed her eyes and began toclear all the thoughts from her mind while trying her best focus. After a minute or two she saw what looked like a red flame in a large expanse of darkness. focusing on the red flame it began moving and eventually started to form a number. the flames eventually cleared and the number 709,564 appeared in red. suddenly a bunch of information flooded her mind about her attunement, she instantly understood what it was, how to use it and its capabilities. After all the Information that was sent into her mind 3 words were put above the number.
