“Of course we can’t get it until the rental agent has run checks on us,” Beau pointed out as they followed the agent back to her office. “So keep your fingers crossed we pass.”

“You know we will. We have jobs, and driver’s licenses and, whatever.”

“Let’s hope it’s that easy.”

They filled out the requisite forms, with Beau listed as the primary renter. She didn’t question their relationship—which was unsurprising given the fact the city was gay-friendly—and told them she’d let them know the following morning if they had the place.

When they asked her about the few pieces of furniture they’d seen there, she told them they’d been left by the former tenant and she’d held on to them to help make the apartment seem ‘friendlier’ as she put it. “You’re welcome to keep them, if you want.”
