He knew the King would want to hear the result of his investigation as soon as possible. However, he guessed he had to wait until the King returned to the castle since their supreme leader left before he could report to him.
Of course, anything that would destroy a family would never be good news. But still, it was his obligation to inform the King of his findings, no matter how uncomfortable he was with the result. Although, he had no idea how the King would react to the news.
