Mad. That loser. "I can't believe Devin is still working with you." He remembered and said nothing.

"Mattie. Trust me, he did it for security," Devin said. "I couldn't change the contracts or what happened. He didn't want me to worry for four years and risk doing something that would put everyone in jeopardy." Still, Devin didn't look fully convinced himself.

"He's not even involved in the contracts," she complained.

"Right. He's the eyes and ears on the outside," Devin said as he looked toward Mads.

"Someone surveying from the outside is gonna get a different point of view than us in there," Grayson agreed. "Are they done yet?"

Oh yeah, these two weren't big advocates of changing unless it was really needed. "Not yet, give them time."

Jill and Lily came out shortly after that. The clothes weren't their style, but they did fit well enough not to complain. Good luck having that happen with Devin's extra clothes.

"So?" Billy started the light conversation. "Lily? I just wanted to say that I was sorry for how I acted toward you last time we met. You know, calling you an Eggbitch."

Lily was surprised about it but accepted the apology. "It's good you adapted. Thank you. You know, for not wanting to kill me."

Grayson and Billy went downstairs. Mattie tried to hold a chuckle. Devin was moving too fast, there's no way he got them clothes, and there's no way his would fit.

Grayson and Billy came back up a few minutes later and just stared at Devin.

"I don't think you got clothes that fit them, Dev," Mattie said, not being able to hold a chuckle.

"Oh. Sorry. We will get some when we get to the islands," Devin promised.

"Great. We will just hang out like the dogs we are," Grayson complained.

"Did you want us to be wolves too? So you feel better?" Jill asked.

"No," Grayson answered.

Then it all fell apart with the rest of Greyson's response. Mattie was so glad she didn't hang out with those two guys. They were probably amazing, and she might have fallen for one, but they had some big problems.

Jill and Lily both yelled at them as they went below the deck to stay. Even Devin just shook his head.

"What?" Billy asked. "We just needed to be clear with them."

Too clear. "Even though you might not believe it, scent doesn't drag you to someone against your will. I am betting they had zero interest in staking a claim on you two." Mattie rolled her eyes and went downstairs. The guys had apologized, only to hurt them all over again.

Jill was sitting down, crossing her arms when Mattie came down. Lily was nursing her purse. To hold it in the teeth safely was an impossible feet without some injury to the fabric. It was damaged, but not too much. "Just a few scratches."

"A few scratches and a small tear," Lily grumbled. "It's my favorite purse. I had to lose everything in a few seconds and I didn't even know why." She petted her purse.

"It's a pretty purse still," Mattie said being encouraging.

"It is. I'll stitch it," Lily agreed. "Screw those guys."

"I think the problem is they don't want that?" Mattie couldn't help but tease her.

"What an a-hole," Jill muttered. "Really? They are going to guard us. Fine. They wanted to apologize. Great. They need to make sure we don't make a move on them because of a whacky scent?" Jill uncrossed her arms. "I have a three-month boyfriend, I am not going to suddenly go whacky in love because I feel cozy, I feel something weird, in a scent." She crossed her arms again.

"I've been in a relationship for a year. He's been hinting at marriage. Maybe," Lily said. "I have no intention of getting involved with someone who smells like an egg."

Yeah. Mattie didn't exactly know how to defend them.

"Like they are somehow the gifts we would want? Like their scent is going to make us rush to their side and fall in love because they are guarding us?" Jill crossed her legs. "They didn't even ask about our lives, just expected to be chased."

"Yeah, they weren't born wolves. They might have been wolves for four years, but let's face it? They are still human guys that don't get it," Mattie said. "I stayed away to make it less complicated when they do come toward you."

Jill and Lily just gave her an odd look.

"They are your mates. Just give them time," Mattie said again. They were still looking at her oddly.

"We aren't after them," Jill told her with a long sigh. "It's just a scent we can ignore. We have boyfriends."

"Serious boyfriend for me," Lily also added. "I'm not going to break my wolf man's heart just because I suddenly like the smell of eggs."

Wow. The guys weren't the only ones that were delusional. There was every chance that these guys might be great, but neither Jill nor Lily mentioned their boyfriend's scent. While those guys may have been raised human, they were still raised in a human environment too. It would take more time for everyone to figure it out.

Which was fine because they'd all be together. Mattie went back up to the deck and went toward the bitter wolves. "Sorry, guys. Lily has a one year boyfriend that might be proposing soon, and Jill has a boyfriend too. They aren't going to be simping for you."

"Well, that's good," Billy said. "I guess that explains why they felt offended about us saying that. It's fine, as long as they get we just want to be friends."

"Guards only," Grayson said. "Acquaintances on duty, friends off duty only."

Geez these guys. Mattie looked toward Devin who was busy staring outward. He was eagerly waiting to get there. He was even pacing the deck back and forth with his paws as he stared outward into the ocean.

Yeah, that's why she couldn't shout how excited she was for this chance. Devin was distraught and worried for poor Destiny. "When we get there, the contracts will chance how things run," she reminded him again. "It'll be okay."

"Someone saw something that wasn't shown on screen. They were clearly a professional reporter but lost all composure when they saw something," Devin said to her. "I can't help but fear what it could be. What has happened over the last four years?"
