The Start

On a sunny day, a teenager wearing a red hoodie jacket was walking in a bustling street lost in thought.

His name is David. A 21-year-old 3rd-year college student taking Business Administration. Today, David thought that it would just be similar to other boring days.

'What should I eat later? Fried chicken? Or some hotdogs? Well, I still need 11 grams of protein to reach my damned macros.' David bumped into a middle-aged man who almost fell to the ground.

The middle-aged man looks upset. Then he glared at David. "Kid, look where you're walking."

"I'm sorry..." David bowed in apology.

'Well, at least he knows how to respect his seniors.' The middle-aged man's anger subsided quickly as he saw how polite David was. "No worries, just be careful next time. You know, if it were thugs, it's over for you."

'Fuck you.' David quietly watched as the middle-aged man walked away. Suddenly, a continuous beeping sound echoed which startled David. Followed by one scream after another.

David noticed that from a meter distance on his left, a mother who had a baby stroller looked horrified as a car was on its way about to hit her. David looked at the baby in the stroller and his mind worked at high speed. 'There's no doubt that I'll be able to save them. The question is... Should I save them?'

David realized that the time was only enough to push the old lady out of the way. 'No, there's only one life. What do I gain from helping them? Fuck it!'

However, David's body wasn't honest. He charged towards them and pushed the old lady, along with the stroller as hard as he could. Following that, David felt the world turn upside down and his vision was swallowed by darkness.

"Ahhhh!!!!" The old lady cried out.

...

'Who am I? Where am I? What am I doing?'

David looked around him but there was nothing but darkness.

'Did I die? Weird, shouldn't I be in some kind of river? Am I in soul form?'

David couldn't even see his hand at all. Weirdly, he could still remember his life on Earth and how he died. He couldn't help but shake his head. 'I really died due to stupidity. Still, it seems a noble way to die. To die saving two people. An old lady and a baby that has a future ahead of him.'

'Though, what did I gain? This personality of mine. Being kind killed me in the end... It's really not good to be a good person but I can't help it.'

David also dislikes his personality. He was too soft with people and too empathetic. He didn't know if it was due to his genes that determined his personality. He was sure that it was not because of the environment.

After all, he grew up with shitty people around him. His father was a meth addict. His mother was a sadistic gambler. Everyone around him was a smoker and 80% of them were thieves.

This made him suspicious. Obviously, he should have been influenced by them but why is it the opposite? Is it because he subconsciously didn't want to be like them?

'Nevermind. There's no use thinking about it. If there's next life, I would still choose to be the same.'

Even if he knows that there are too many disadvantages to being a good person... Though, he's not the type to let his kindness get exploited by others.

'Still, what's the deal with this darkness? Shouldn't I suppose to be in heaven now with what I did?' David thought with amusement. 'Or am I in a waiting line or something?'

David had no idea how much time had passed but he felt that it was already an eternity.

Just like that, nine months passed. Of course, David didn't know this.

'Damn it... There's nothing to do here. For fucks sake! Where are the angels or St. Peter that's supposed to fucking lead my soul to heaven!? Could it be I'm not qualified to go there?'

For a long time, David still doesn't have an idea where he is. Aside from darkness, he would feel or hear the sound of liquid flowing and he also feels strange warmth around him which doesn't make sense for him.

Suddenly, a wild speculation appeared on his head. 'Maybe all souls need to wait for the judgment day? It shouldn't be, right?'

Just as David felt despair. He felt a strong suction force and saw what seemed to be a light. It "almost" blinded his eyes which made him close it. Well, if he has eyes in the first place.

'Can I finally get out of this? Is this heaven?'

David's "eyes" unconsciously squinted as the suction force grew stronger and stronger. David didn't plan to resist or anything because he just wanted to get out. He was sick of nothing but darkness and no one to talk to!

...

"So this is my youngest son?" Aizward stared at the baby in front of him who had the same azure blue eyes as him. Then, he turned his head at his wife who died after giving birth indifferently.

The midwife looked at Aizward tremblingly. "S-sir... She didn't make it."

"Ummm..."

"Mom!!" On the other hand, James, Aizward's first son cried out beside his dead mother.

David watched all this speechless. Then, lifted his hands and saw two unfamiliar small white hands. 'Whose hand is this??'

Aizward looked at the baby and let out a cold snort. "You're mother is dead. Although everyone is just a tool for me. I'll honor her last request. From now on, you will be called David! The one that will help me fulfill my ambition."

David shifted his innocent eyes to the man in front of him. Then, at the young boy who was crying beside a dead woman.

Then, everything sinks in. David had to admit that he was stupid. But he's not stupid enough to not recognize what's happening.

'It seems I got reincarnated as a baby. Am I still on Earth or another world though?'

It would be a damn waste if he got reincarnated to Earth again! Well, actually, it's not that bad at least he'll live again but he prefers to be the same as those he watched in anime in his past life.

'This means this man in front of me is my father. The woman that died is my mother and the young kid crying is my older brother...'

David stared at Aizward in front of him who looked cold and dignified. 'It seems he's a noble? He doesn't seem to be a good person either.'

To consider everyone as a tool? This made David understand that he's father was a utilitarian type!
