6 A Night To Remember

In the settlement, the streets were mostly deserted during the day, as most survivors were either scavenging for supplies or holed up in their rooms, waiting for the sun to set. But as night fell, the settlement came alive with activity.

The darkness seemed to bring out a certain energy in the survivors, who gathered together in small groups to socialize and blow off steam after a long day of survival.

The air was filled with laughter and conversation, as well as the occasional scream or gunshots in the distance. It was fun to drink and forget their worries, but a few had to be on guard to take care of zombies.

Many tents had been repurposed into makeshift taverns and clubs, where people could escape the harsh realities of the apocalypse for a few hours. The establishments were often dimly lit, with flickering candles or lanterns providing the only source of illumination.

Inside these establishments, the atmosphere was lively and energetic. People danced to the beat of the music, drinks were passed around, and the smell of food filled the air.

The patrons were a mix of ages and backgrounds, all brought together by their shared desire to forget about the apocalypse for a while.

Outside, the streets were still dangerous, but many of the survivors seemed to enjoy the thrill of the night. Meanwhile, groups of armed individuals patrolled the area, ensuring the undead stayed at bay while the rest of the settlement partied.

Shinon had never experienced nightlife like this before. Despite being plunged into the depths of hell, the survivors didn't forget about a time before zombies stole everything from them.

As he walked through the bustling streets of the settlement with Selena by his side, he felt a sense of awe at the energy and vitality of the people around him.

Selena led him through the winding streets, pointing out various establishments and introducing him to some of the other survivors. They stopped at a tavern, where the low sound of lively music spilt out onto the streets.

"It's kind of funny you people have time to prepare alcohol but not repair your gear," Shinon commented.

"That's true, but this kinda night is special. You didn't expect us to party every day, did you?" Selena replied before rushing inside the tavern.

Inside, the atmosphere was electric. The tavern was packed with people, all drinking and dancing together like old friends. Shinon watched in amazement as Selena moved through the crowd, laughing and joking with everyone she met.

Shinon could've never thought his first time in a tavern would be in an apocalyptic world. Back in his timeline, the only place he spent time was inside his forge, and there were times when he didn't leave the forge for days.

But now, he was having fun outside the forge for the first time in a long time.

"This is amazing," Shinon said as Selena handed him a drink.

"I know," she replied with a grin. "We have to make the most of what we have, right?"

Shinon nodded, taking in the sights and sounds of the bustling establishment. As the night wore on, they visited several other establishments, each with its unique atmosphere and energy.

"Try not to get drunk," Selena said as she leaned against the barricade. "We got a long day ahead of us."

Shinon hadn't noticed it before, probably because of her armour, but Selena was beautiful. It was no surprise guys were throwing him dirty looks wherever he went with her.

"I wonder what year this is," Shinon mumbled while sipping beer.

"2083." Selena replied, stealing Shinon's drink, "Ah, I never got to ask; what time are you from?"

"2023..."

"Feeling old yet?" Selena laughed before shifting her gaze towards the night sky.

The stars twinkled like diamonds against the inky blackness. The air was cool and crisp, and the sound of crickets filled the air.

She felt a sense of calm wash over her as she stared up at the endless space above her. It was as if all the chaos and destruction of the world below simply faded away into nothingness in the face of such vastness.

The moon hung low on the horizon, casting a soft glow over the world below. Selena could make out the shapes of the nearby buildings and the faint outlines of the surrounding trees, where the guards were chatting.

As she watched, a shooting star streaked across the sky, its trail burning bright against the darkness. Selena closed her eyes and made a wish, hoping for a brighter future and a world free from the horrors of the apocalypse.

Everything was peaceful and quiet for a moment, and Selena was grateful for this small moment of respite from the constant struggle for survival.

"People still believe in shooting stars?" Shinon asked.

"Nah, but if it gives you peace of mind, then what's the harm in trying?" Selena replied.

"I've been meaning to say something-"

"If it's about those who died earlier, you don't need to." Selena's happy face drooped a bit. "When we step out of these walls, we know it could be the last time we'll ever get to see the ones we care about."

She continued, "Jason and Saif knew it as well. If anything, I think they'll be happy they got to leave this doomed world. I know I will be when my time comes."

"Not on my watch." Shinon tried lightening the mood. "I owe you for the drinks, you know. And I don't like staying indebted to anyone. Even to someone like you."

"I- Let's get going. You'll be staying with me until we devise a permanent solution for your homelessness."

***

As they walked through the settlement, Shinon couldn't help but feel drawn to Selena. She was beautiful, with her long blond hair and piercing green eyes.

Maybe having alcohol in his system gave Shinon some courage to do something he would never try otherwise. He just hoped he doesn't grow to regret what he was about to do.

"So, Selena," he said, flashing her a crooked smile. "You must get a lot of attention from guys around here."

Selena raised an eyebrow, a hint of amusement in her eyes.

"Maybe," she said, playing coy. "But I don't usually pay them much mind."

Shinon stepped closer, backing Selena up against a wall, his voice lowering to a husky whisper.

"What about me?" he asked, his eyes locked onto hers. "Do I catch your eye?"

Selena didn't back away, her heart racing as she felt the heat of his body close to hers.

"Maybe," she said, a small smile on her lips.

Shinon leaned in even closer, his breath hot on her skin.

"Maybe?" he repeated. "Playing hard to get, huh?"

Selena chuckled softly.

"Maybe I am," she said, her eyes sparkling with mischief.

Shinon took the opportunity to reach out and brush a strand of hair behind her ear, his fingers lingering on her cheek.

"Well, I'm not one to back down from a challenge," he said, his voice low and alluring.

Selena's breath caught in her throat as she felt the electricity between them. She leaned in, her lips hovering just inches from his.

"I can be very challenging," she whispered, her eyes locked onto his.

Shinon didn't hesitate, his lips crashing onto hers in a passionate kiss. Selena responded eagerly, her body melting into his as they lost themselves in the moment.

With a playful smile, she took his hand and led him towards the door.

"Let's go," she said, a twinkle in her eye. "I want to see what kind of trouble we can get into."
