Chapter 105
Because I'm not comfortable with this new idea of getting a wife in less than two months, this is too quick for me to even process, talk more of carrying it out, "just calm down dearie, you don't need to be rude about it" my mother replied with a smile while trying to ease down my anger level and just at that moment, my father knelt down on the floor and the look on his face left me speechless, "Son I know I have put you through a lot of stress and I definitely know that it won't be easy to find a wife but bear in mind that I don't have much time on my side and it's my last wish for me to hold my grandchild in my arms before I die. Please don't let me leave this earth without seeing my grandchild because I won't be happy wherever I am after death" he replied with a sad look on his face.
I quickly knelt down on the floor and gently raised him up because it's not right for a father to kneel down before his son, it's more like a curse according to some historians, "I will grant you your last request father but promise me that you will allow me choose the woman I want so that I will forever live alone with the consequences if anything should go wrong in the marriage" I replied, "Yes, I won't interfere but please do it quickly or do you have a girl in mind?" he asked. "I don't actually have any girl in mind but I will keep my eyes open for anyone that will suit me perfectly and she can either be an American or a Nigerian" I replied
My dad gave me a tight hug after my last reply and I could feel his heart beat when he drew me close to his chest, my mom joined in so did my aunt and it became a group hug before they all went back to their respective positions. "I'm so glad that everything went well" my aunt said, "Did you actually know about this and by the way, I still want to know what you wanted to tell me on our way to the airport, I won't rest until I hear it" I replied, I knew that she was hiding something all along but I didn't want to pester her so that it won't seem like I'm too curious.
"You have heard it from your parents already, what else do you want to hear?" she asked with a smile, "Leave Andrew my dear, he is always too curious and that's what affects him most of the the time so tell me how is life going with your husband to be?" my mom said while turning over to have a discussion with my aunt, "Alright, dad, I would like to go hang out with some of my friends, it's been long since I last saw their faces" I replied while trying to grab the attention of everyone. "You are free to go son, you are a grown man now" my dad replied with a smile and I quickly went to my room to change into some nice clothes that are fit for outting but before I left my room, I sent a text to Kelvin through Facebook and I told him to tell the rest to meet me at the paramount hotel so that we could spend more exquisite time together
I walked out of the living room without being noticed because my dad, mom and aunt were all engrossed in their decision that they didn't even notice when I pass through the living room like a ghost, I went to the garage but then I remembered that all the cars has been changed so I will have to meet my dad to give me the keys to one of his cars now, so I went straight to him to ask for the keys with respect because my car has been sold off now and I definitely don't want to take a taxi to where I'm going. "Guess you were quite surprised not to see your beautiful car in the garage" my dad said after I asked him for the keys
I didn't reply his statement but he kept on laughing till one of the guards brought the keys to him before he handed it over to me, I drifted out of the garage with speed and the security guard nearly injured himself trying to stay clear so that I don't run into him by accident, "I'm really sorry for that, it's been a long while since I drifted like this, I'm really sorry for causing you pain" I called out to him when I noticed he was filled with dirt after jumping into the garden, "It's alright sir, I was just too scared that's all" he replied looking so happy. I drove out and on my way to the hotel, I came across a police check point and my heart is beating faster than usual because I don't own this car and the driver's license doesn't bear my name
I'm in deep shit right now and this would definitely ruin my plans for today and everything became worse when they signaled for me to pull over by the side of the road, I quickly brought out my phone to dial my dad's number but I found out that my Nigerian sim card is still on this phone, oh my good Lord. What kind of trouble is this? and I don't think my dad would be online on Facebook so that I could connect to the free wi-fi that is available on this street and send him a message or probably call him through Facebook. "Good day officer, how are you doing?" I asked with so much fear but I didn't show it so that the officer won't detect that I'm scared, "I'm okay, nice car you got there" he replied while examining the interior design of the car
"Thanks, hope I haven't disobeyed any traffic law?" I asked with a smile, "Not at all, you are free to go now, we just wanted to see the face of the man driving this car because this car belongs to someone else" he replied. I nearly froze to death on hearing that word and it was like a joke when I lost my voice, I don't even know what to say, "Sir I can explain" I replied after a short silence
"You don't have to explain anything, just give me your identity card let me confirm if you are the son of Mr Phillips" he replied while bringing out his eye glass from his pocket, I brought out my ID card without any delay, thank God I took it with me before leaving the house and that's because I saw it on my table. I'm pretty sure the maids are the ones who put it there because I don't remember arranging my room before leaving for the airport that morning. "Alright sir, you are free to go, do greet your father for me when you see him" he replied and signaled the other officers to let me pass
I felt so relieved when I drove past them so I quickly increased my speed a little incase so that they won't find me that easily incase if they change their mind. On getting to the hotel, I brought out my phone to see if Kelvin has replied my Facebook message and now I have to start looking for another free wi-fi connection because the hotel's own is locked, perhaps if I book a room, they will give me the password. "How much is a night here?" I asked the receptionist who wore a beautiful red valet and she had this adorable eyes like that of any angel. "Depends on the one you want sir" she replied with a smile, her reply made me remember my trip to Atlanta Georgia five years back, oh it would be so nice to hang out with these old pals of mine
"I just want the normal one or let's say the business suit" I replied while trying to hasten up the process so that she can give me the password but someone called my name after tapping my back and when I turned to see who he or she was, low and behold, it was Kelvin. "Oh my good Lord, Andrew is this really you?" he screamed out of excitement as we both hugged each other so tight "It's been a long while pal, I have missed you guys so much" I replied with so much joy in my heart. "You have changed bro, look at your beards, you are now a full grown man" he teased while using his hands to scatter my beards
"It's all part of the growing process, where are the rest by the way?" I asked when I noticed he was the only one with me, "They will soon be inside, we thought you weren't here so we decided to hang around and see if you will drive in and when I noticed a car that drove in few minutes ago, I decided to come and check out the driver" he replied. "Then let's go meet them, I have been waiting to see you guys for so long" I replied but just as we about to leave, I saw Micheal and Alexia walking towards our direction with a little baby
I kept on staring at them to see if my eyes were actually seeing the right people until they can closer, Alexia was holding a beautiful baby in her arms and the shock on my face couldn't even let me greet her, I was stunned beyond words until Micheal called out to me. "It's good to have you back bro, I and my wife have missed you so much" he said while leaning forward to give me a hug. "How are you doing Micheal, I'm so sorry I couldn't attend your wedding, I was caught up with a big deal back in Nigeria and I couldn't leave it or else it would crash" I pleaded with him because I know he might still be angry by the fact that I didn't show up for his wedding when I promised him that I would act as one of his groomsmen.
He was really looking forward to seeing me at the event that day only for me to call him very early in the morning to tell him that I didn't book a flight to New York because of a deal I had to sign at the office, he was devastated that day and the sound of his voice portrayed disappointed and anger but after the wedding, I sent him a whooping sum of $3Million Dollars as a compensation for my absence. "It's nothing to be worried about bro, the money you sent me went a long way to settle half of my needs and I'm grateful for that but three years after our wedding, I found out that my wife was pregnant and behold is my beautiful daughter, sorry I forgot to tell you about it" he replied with a grin
"You actually forgot to tell me about your new born baby ever since, that's not cool bro" I replied with a frown, "He said he wanted it to be a surprise to you anytime you pay a visit to New York" Alexia finally replied. I'm really happy for the both of them, I knew all along that they will eventually get married someday because their love for each other is just too strong and their daughter looks so beautiful and adorable just like her father. "Well, I'm quite surprised though and I'm also happy for you guys, what's her name?" I asked with a smile while I tried to carry the baby in my arms
She smiled at me and that smile of hers made so happy to the extent that I started wishing for a baby at that very moment, "Her name is Lucy" Alexia replied. "That's a wonderful name and I know she will grow to make you guys proud" I replied with a smile while we all walked to sit down on the chairs close to the air conditioner
