17. If You Were My Lover

Caleb entered Crystal's room as he found the door wide open. Crystal was sitting on the bed as the night was falling gradually outside on the balcony. Dried tears added a shine to Crystal's cheeks.

He picked up every paper on his way inside. They were the confidential sourcebooks of Calvier Publishing. Crystal stood up as she found Caleb picking up her stuff.

"It's fine, you sit," Caleb said. His hands were working faster than ever. He stood up straight and asked Crystal to sit back. For the first time, Crystal realized how tall Caleb was. She sat down. Caleb walked to his bedside and poured a glass of water.

"I heard what happened." Caleb finally said. "Crystal, I don't know much about you, but you can always share."

Crystal looked up through her big round, chestnut eyes, red from constant crying.
