Synopsis

The day she died was the day she finally realized that her detachment and cowardice were her biggest mistakes. That those were the reasons she lost everything. "If time will turn back its hands, I will no longer just watch. I will return everything in its rightful places. I will control my own fate." These were her thoughts as the reel of her life played, as the poison coursed in her body reminding her of her incompetence, of her inaction, burning all of her resistance and detachment. And then she opened her eyes once more. She was back. This time she will make sure that she won't lose anything or anyone. Including a certain smiling devil who is really good at kissing. --------------------- This is an Original story and not a translation. Chapter 1Her Murderer

"You're here."

Yan Qing Shan greeted her murderer who entered the hospital room. Her back was turned at the door but she knew, by the sound of the footsteps approaching, who it was. Qing Shan coldly glanced at the woman who sat at the visitor's chair.

"Seems like you were expecting me? How surprising."

The woman answered. Her tone laced with ridicule.

Qing Shan turned her back to her and faced the window, a sneer on her lips.

"I knew you were coming. You're here to finish me off. After all, you didn't expect for the poison to be intercepted. You've been waiting for this for a long time now, stepmother. Or should I say, aunt Ming Hua."

Qing Shan replied in her usual cold, detached voice. Yes. Her usual voice. The voice which had pushed everyone away. The voice which had her father and brother to worry for her leading to their loss. The voice which had intrigued the devil who imprisoned her. The voice that had now driven her to death.

No. Wrong. It wasn't her voice. It was her, herself. Her passivity. Her detachment to all things. That is what led her to this point.

"Oh? So you knew? I see that you're not that stupid after all." was the reply Ming Hua gave her.

Aunt Ming Hua was her mother's twin sister. Qing Shan's mother, Ming Yue, died in a vehicular accident when she was five. Her father, whose world was her mother, was devastated. Zhao Ming Hua, who was secretly in love with her brother-in-law took it as an opportunity to get close to him. With their identical looks and temperament, it was inevitable that her father succumbed to her. But she knew. Yan Qing Shan knew that it was only in looks that Zhao Ming Hua was identical to Zhao Ming Yue. Where her mother was sweet, kind, and gentle; Ming Hua was malicious, envious, and harsh. Her sweet temperament was merely an act to bait her father with. This was a fact that she had confirmed when she was seven. A fact that was magnified even more when her half sister, Yan Xiaoyi was born. At that time, she wanted to tell her father. But she saw that he was happy with her. Qing Shan couldn't bear to shatter the smile her father had regained. So she kept it from everyone. But the image of a harmonious family that they had projected made her heart grow cold. Even when she had tried to bridge the distance and get close to them, she couldn't even take a step closer.

Qing Shan tilted her head to face the woman who has her mother's face but was twisted with hate towards her. Her own blood related aunt. She smiled ruefully.

"I knew. I have known since the start that you have been trying to put me out of commission. Not just that. I also knew you were behind my brother's divorce. I knew that you plan to trick father into giving the entire company to Xiaoyi. I'm going to die. And you have made sure that my brother is too out of it to properly function and interfere with your plans. You can't kill him because he's the only son but as for me, you're very much free. In the end, you just wanted everything mother has. It's a pity though, you'll never be Zhao Ming Yue. You'll never surpass her even if you take everything that is meant to be hers."

She matter-of-factly said. A trace of astonishment flashed within Ming Hua's eyes but was instantly replaced with fuming rage.

"Bitch! So what if you knew? You didn't do anything about it anyway. You're useless. You're just a coward, Yan Qing Shan. But thanks to that, everything will be my Xiaoyi's. Even your husband. I may not surpass Ming Yue but she's dead. The same goes for you. Both of you lost."

Zhao Ming Hua laughed at her mockingly. She stared at the woman with her usual detached look. As if what she was saying did not involve her. But deep within her heart was a raging turmoil. Her heart constricted painfully at those words. Regret was pouring through every vein in her body. Even more so when the woman in the visitor's chair brought out a little bottle.

As the overweight daughter of the Sutton family, Kelsie is an eyesore to everyone. Her father can't wait to get rid of her, his wife and their daughter daughter too. The man she's supposed to marry can't stand her and looks for ways to end their engagement, all to no avail. But on the day she's to get married, she finds out she's pregnant. Her fiancé finally uses the opportunity to break off his engagement to her and her father sends her packing to her aunt in another city never to return after she refuses to remove the baby like he asked her to. Seven years later, she returns to the city to claim her position as the heiress of her mother's fortune, which her father and his wife and daughter has been living off of all these years. But not as the overweight duckling everyone expected, but as a stunning, glamorous woman. Behind her are three children: a daughter who looks exactly like her, a handsome son, and another handsome son who looks too much like the most powerful man in the city. Unexpectedly, the dimwit, her fiancé who broke off their engagement comes begging for them to get married like they were supposed to. "So what if you're stunning now and lost all that weight? Everyone knows you used to be an ugly duckling. Who knows the underhanded ways you resorted to to lose weight. Forget our past and marry me again." The woman looked at him and snickered. "Aren't you the heir of the Baker family? Why would you marry a fatso like me?" The man huffed and said arrogantly. "Hmph! Do whatever you want. But I assure you that no one in Silicon Valley will want to marry a woman saddled with bastard children!" The triplets came up on his face and snorted in disdain. "Who's this? Where is daddy when a man like this harasses mommy?” “I told you he wasn’t worth her. Hurry up and call him quickly.” The man who was in the middle of a conference call ended it as soon as he heard the news and went straight to where she was. “Are you hitting on my wife? Bastards? Are you calling the beloved children of Jett Adler bastards?” “Eh-what? Jett Adler? The most powerful man in the city? How is that even possible!”

This is what happened in the first 5 chapter, so no major spoiler. To put it simply, this makes a mockery of women that detach themselves in situations of abuse where there is no way out. Detachment is a way of coping. She gets abused for not being okay with being kidnapped and denied her freedom and general liberties. She dies being detached all her life and suddenly she has all these plans and energy to do stuff when reincarnated... something completely out of character for someone that has always been passive. Change is hard. You can’t go 0 to 100 and say it’s because she rebirthed. So, character development is meh, especially since there is the victim blaming. The “it takes two to tango” bull where she justifies her captor. The idiom is not applicable as she is only in a situation where her response to a forced situation illicits favorable or abusive reactions. This is like how you discipline a farm animal. You have all control and manipulate and play with it for your satisfaction. It’s not a situation where two people are doing the “tango.” I hate to pit it this way, but while someone like her might have regrets, that does not mean she would want to relieve her life more than be dead. Passiveness comes from unwillingness to adapt and move on, it comes from general lack of motivation in life. Someone like her was basically clinically depressed and magically becomes an active teenager that wants to be up in everybody’s business along with her own. This is HARD fiction. It lacks reason and logic and is in the same space as fanfic, where you really have to struggle to make it seem plausible.
