Too Innocent

KADEN

Kaden's mind was still reeling from the kiss he had just shared with Storm, when a knock propped up hard on his door.

"Come in." He muttered, gazing at his ceiling, his legs crossed on each other, his hands crossed at the back of his head, as he laid comfortably on the bed. He couldn't remember the last time he felt so sated when his world seemed to be crashing around him.

His lack of communication with his probably dead lycan was enough end of the world story to him. But surprisingly, just a kiss from Storm had managed to tame the roaring depression that had been rearing its ugly head.

Where would he take her to this evening?

He had made the promise, but that had been like a knee jerk reaction. He really didn't have an idea of where to take her.

"Kaden..down to earth.." Liam called out, tapping Kaden's knee, causing the moonstruck lover to look at his friend.

"Sit up, big man. What are you thinking about? Is it about the issue with the experiments? Casper had filled me in." Liam started, and Kaden sighed, his mind returning back to reality, the goofy smile on his face wiping off completely.

It was good that Liam hadn't seen it or else the latter would begin another lecture on why he shouldn't be with Storm, and to rather stay with Avery till she found her mate.

What if the girl had found her mate, and had rejected him? Kaden wondered, folding his hands across his chest, looking up at Liam who had decided to remain standing.

But why had his Beta told Liam about the issue? The matter was supposed to stay between them for now. He didn't to raise some panic among his family.

"Yeah, you heard it right. For now, I am not sure if my lycan is still available." Kaden muttered, sighing again when he felt Liam's hand on his shoulders. Of course he appreciated his friend's care, but that's what he had been avoiding all these while-being pitied on.

Kaden hoped that Liam kept the news to himself, and his mate of course, since they were inseparable. Because Kaden knew he wouldn't be able to tolerate the same looks from the other members of the clan.

"I am fine, Liam. Just don't tell anyone about this." He said.

Liam nodded. And Kaden knew then that the latter wouldn't.

"So, how did it go?" Liam asked.

Kaden shrugged, pretending not to understand what his friend was talking about, even though he knew the direction Liam was taking now.

"What are you talking about?" He, out of habit, looked to Storm's window, scowling wheh he saw the stepsister.

What was her name again? Mira or was it Midana?

Whichever, the girl was shouting like a maniac, while his lovely girlfriend just stood by the side as if she was enjoying the show.

Wait. Did he just call Storm, his girlfriend?

"Kaden.."

Kaden heard Liam's voice of warning and advice and sighed. Here it goes. He thought, turning to look at his friend.

"You know you shouldn't be doing this. I get she is attractive and all that, but you can't involve her in what we are doing. She is too innocent for all of this, and already has enough on her plate. I doubt dating a mafia boss would be the first thing on her mind." Liam said, and Kaden looked away, knowing how right Liam was but not wanting to admit that out loud.

He wanted to tell his friend that the girl might be his mate, but he doubted Liam would believe that. Lycans don't usually have fated mates. They had to choose after waiting in vain, to see if the goddess would be lenient to them.

Secondly, his lycan was absent. How would heexplain the mate pull theory to Liam. The latter would ask questions on how that was possible without his Lycan wolf.

Kaden wouldn't blame him though.

However, even if he couldn't feel the mate pull toward Storm at the moment, probably because of the collars and the failed experiment. He knew she was the one. He had felt it two years ago. The pull. It had been so strong then.

Kaden knew that he couldn't do anything about this development. He could only hope that his lycan get backs before it was too late.

But apart from this, would she want to get tangled up with a mafia lord?

Obviously, Storm didn't know who he was. Well, nobody knew. What they knew was that he was a rich businessman with different companies under his name. Nobody knew that all that was just a cover for what he really did, except the few clans that had advocated for us to wear collars.

Kaden was beginning to regret that decision.

"I understand, Liam. She is too innocent for me and what I do. I get it. Is that the only reason why you are here?" He finally answered Liam, standing up from the bed, feeling the need to take a bath seriously.

"Yes. Well, Avery is here. She is with the reports for the week." Liam said, before turning around and walking out of the room.

Avery? Oh, god.

What else could go wrong now? Kaden wondered, hollering at Liam the next second to let her in. The latter has been in his bedroom a few times after all. He decided to take the bath later, after handling the reports.

Avery was in charge of the drug operation all through their deposits in the country. Liam was in charge of the guns and research.

Kaden strolled to the window, a smile slithering across his lips before he could stop it when he saw the step sister now punching the life out of a pillow, whilst Storm watched her.

His mate was really something. He thought, knowing that she had somehow triggered the latter's psycho-ness.

"What are you smiling at?" He heard Avery's soft voice behind him, and turned around.
