Is that what you think when I'm with Koa or Aneth, not you?” Nye locks eyes with me. “Dragons have a hierarchy. The leader of the males is the one with whom the female spends the most time. Koa and Aneth know this.” I cross my arms, “That makes no sense. I want to get to know all of you.” “Too bad,” Nye says, his eyes are unwavering. “If they can’t beat me in a fight, you won’t.” I chuckle, unbelieving the nature of these creatures. “So if you were to be “dethroned” by Aneth or Koa. I'd be spending more time with them?” “It's our nature. To be a leader you must be powerful, if not you don't deserve to be there. Someone else will take it.” Nye says this as if it's a binding oath. Well, that's great. It will take me forever to get to know Koa and Aneth more than on a surface level. “You irk me.” I cross my arms over my chest. Nye did get under my skin, but I liked it. Am I sick in the head? Maybe. “Darling, you take me for someone who needs your approval for what I do. You should know by now that I do not.” Nye smirks at me. I roll my eyes. “Then buckle up 'cause you're going to have a butt load of shit to deal with on this ride, honey.” I walk past him, purposefully exaggerating the sway of my hips. Bite it, big guy.

Chapter 70

~Kamari~

It's funny how the things you hope for can simultaneously be what you hate. And in this situation, my blood boiled over. Rage. "You trot In here as if you've done nothing wrong." My fists clenched, and my body trembled. "Do you have any idea the pain you caused me?" My voice nearly breaks, and I try to keep it together.

When I don't hear anything from Nye, I turn towards him only to run smack into his chest. As I look into his stupid, beautiful eyes, I backhand him. The impact echoes in the room. Nye smiles, and it makes my eye twitch.

"I suppose I deserve to be the outlet of your anger. But will you let me speak?"

I close the gap between us, glaring at him, "I'd rather cut out your tongue." I say through my teeth. His hands come to caress my cheek, and I can't help the trembling of my bottom lip. "I've never questioned my way of life, Kamari, but Aneth's actions have sickened me." Nye's eyes pierce into me. "And before I tell you why we left, you must promise me you will not take action because Kadea, help me. I will chain you into a cell to keep you safe."

I shudder a chuckle In disbelief, "What?" This man utterly confuses me. Nye cups my face in his hands, his presence giving me a sense of longing, something I desperately wanted to give into, but I held back. "Aneth found a letter addressed to you, a child's handprint in blood." Nye's voice is full of grit. And my breath catches in my throat, then he continues to say, "Javall wants revenge, and he wants the blood our whelps quench it."

My eyes glow, and a fierce heat radiates out of my skin. "You dare keep secrets like that from me? My whelps!? I'm their mother!" I shove Nye's chest hard but he doesn't move, if anything he clings to my face. "We mean to keep you safe, Kamari, even from yourself. If you had found that letter, would you have done something rash, darling? Because by the look on your face, you'd ruin worlds."

"I would," my voice turns feral, "he threatens my family and I-

"You can do nothing against Magic Kamari!" Nye shakes me, "Even Aneth can't bring down the barrier they have surrounding their lands. We've been there, we've seen it."

I still didn't understand, "You left me." My voice cracks, " You left me, Nye. No explanation, no, I'm coming back. Nothing!" My tears flow like a raging river, "I would never do that to you. Never." I sob. I could barely see, my vision blurry from my tears, but I felt Nye pull me into his arms and hold me tight.

"I left to come to you, Kamari." I feel his face in my hair, "Because I cannot stand the hollowness it makes me feel to be away from you and Ignis." I can hear his voice, aching with longing, at the point of breaking, "I cannot be without you."

I cry like a damn fool and cling to Nye as if he were the last thread of my sanity. "Don't leave me. Please, I can't-" My words are silenced by his searing kiss that takes my breath away. And at the same time, igniting a yearning for his touch, Good goddess, I felt so desperate for It, like the burning in your throat for water.

Nye growls against my lips, "Kadea's hell," he picks me up around my waist, carrying me to the bed, and letting me fall onto it as he hovers over me, his eyes hazed in desire long deprived, "Forgive me darling, but I'm breaking the fucking rules." He crushes his lips into mine, my body responds to his passion, my core pulsing with need. My hands fumble and shake to free him from his pants, to feel him again.

Nye grabs my hips and slides me to the edge of the bed, and the feeling of him entering me is pure bliss. I whimper and moan, not caring who hears me. He locks eyes with me, the energy between us electrifying, charging every second he thrusts into me. "Goddess, I fucking hate you!" I cry out, my words a mix of truth and lies. Nye lays his forehead on mine, still keeping his pace and driving me mad.

"Such lies from your filthy mouth." He darkly chuckles with a smirk, " Goddess, your body is such a sin." He growls out, and he starts kissing me passionately, the rawness of his feelings coming through, "I need you, Kamari; my soul breaks without you."

I gaze into his eyes, the pleasure he's making me feel drowns everything else out, everything but the way I feel for him, "Oh goddess," I break, "I love you," I whimper, "I love you Nye. Ugh!" My words ignite the beast within him and pace becomes unstable, "Ah yes, darling," Nye's eyes roll to the back of his head, he digs his nails into my hips, and I shudder from the mix of pain and pleasure.

"You're mine, Kamari," the words come from a primal place, and I could feel it by the way he made love to me. He kisses my neck, the heat of his breath in my ear, "And you are my everlasting flame, the love of my life." I didn't know if it was his words or the way he thrust Into me, but my walls clenched around him, giving me a release that had me seeing stars. Nye lavishes me in lazy kisses, making me forget he ever left.

He stays with me, and I lie on his chest as he runs his fingers through my hair. I trace the outlines of the muscles on his abdomen. "Where are you furs?" Nye asks, noticing they are missing from the bed. I subtly bite my lip, then clear my throat, "The under-dwelling." I could feel Nye's muscles tense, "Why?"

I forget how gravely Nye's voice could get, but I missed it despite what it might mean. "You were gone, Nye. I placed some furs by the under-dwelling." When I look back up at Nye, he wears a look that makes me give him submissive eyes. Nye raises a sharp brow and then sighs, "Leave you to remind me of that Shades festering existence." I place my hands on Nye and straddle him. His eyes lock with mine, and I see a smile pull at his lips. The position takes me back to when we first started to bond with one another, and it makes my heart swell with worth. His hand caresses my cheek, and I lean into his warmth. "I've been with you for so long, it feels like. It scares me to think you guys could leave like that," my throat swells up again, "did Aneth tell you to do this? To leave without telling me why?"

Nye kisses my forehead, "Yes." A rush of anger spikes in my blood. I entwine my fingers with Nyes, and I'm not proud of what I say next, "Do me a favor?" Nye's eyes search mine, and he half-smiles, "Anything."

I swallow hard, "Dethrone him." I watch the wicked smile play on Nye's lips, "Oh, I live for such savagery, but I was already planning on it, Darling."
