Chapter 17: Goblin dungeon

Marcus was running to town and slaying any low level monster he could find.

[Level up!]

[Level 2]

[Exp: 564/2000]

"At this rate I should get to level 3 before I get back" Marcus said as he killed the last monster.

He looked at [Masters first weapon] in his left hand and swung it a few times.

"Dragon tooth taking all my levels is really annoying, I can't even use it immediately" he said as he swung his left arm more. "But at this rate I should be able to get the dual Swordsmanship by the time I get to level 5" he said as he sheathed the sword on his right hip.

He carried on running as he ate bread.

After a while he made it back to Velvet town he saw the gates were closed and he sighed.

"To be expected, beginner towns don't allow any entry or exit at night, I should find a safe place to spend the night" Marcus said.

He looked around and saw monsters around him, they were all between level 5 and 8, dangerous for any player at the beginning stages.

"I should be able to make it to at least level 4 with these guys around and if I'm smart I'll get to level 5" he said brandishing the masters first weapon.

As the sun rose and the gates of Velvet town opened the first things players in the town witnessed as they were at the gate was a man with black hair that covered his eyes and brown skin that glowed in the sunlight. His whole body covered in blood from monsters.

"Holy shit, did he stay out of town during the night?!"

"Is he insane?!"

"What level is he?!"

"He's got to be high leveled!"

"Look at his hips, he fights using two Swords, how cool!"

Everyone murmured with each other as he started walking inside. They all cleared a path for the mysterious Swordsman.

[Marcus]

[Level 4]

[Exp: 355/8000]

'A little more Exp until I can use Dragon tooth' Marcus said.

All of a sudden he felt eyes on him.

"Level 4!" one of the passerby yelled.

Marcus looked at the direction and was a bit surprised.

'Someone with an appraisal skill?' Marcus thought.

"Hey, what are you talking about?!"

"Thats his level, I used an appraisal skill to see and that's what I saw!" the man yelled again.

"Holy shit"

"Incredible!"

"Maybe he can help us level up!"

"Please teach us!"

Everyone turned to look at Marcus but the man was nowhere to be found.

"That was close" he said.

Marcus wasn't all surprised at their shock, excluded very talented and lucky individuals the average player level is 2 and above average is 3,having someone at level 4 at this point is an impressive feat.

"I wonder what level Ben is at right now, I'll find out when I find him" he said as he walked towards the inn.

After booking a room and taking a bath he left again and went straight to the market.

'After some thinking, it's better to sell at the market and not auction it off, I won't get much from auction off these items as players don't have enough money and even if they did have a lot they wouldn't be willing to spend a lot at this point and let's not the forget the fact the auction house will take 20% of my earnings' he thought. 'So it might not be as lucrative, but I'll just sell to a local merchant and get some silver' he thought as he made it to a two story shop in the middle of velvet town.

He walked in and was greeted by a cute local girl who worked at the shop.

"Hello sir, what would you like to do today" She said with a smile.

"I'd like to sell a few things, and possibly buy something" Marcus said looking at the items on the shelves of the shop.

'A few skills and good quality items here and there, but nothing crazy' he thought.

"Please give me your items you wish to sell and I'll appraise them" She said.

"No problem" he said and gave her 40 silver items.

The local had a slight look of shock at the amount and quality of the items. She looked at Marcus and saw his level. He was higher leveled then all the players she has seen but that didn't explain the items.

"I know, not what you expected" Marcus said with a smile.

She returned the smile and appraised the items.

"I hope this will be a good amount of money" she said.

[+1 Gold and 200 Silver]

"Wow" Marcus said.

He was a bit shocked, he wasn't expecting to get more then 500 Silver for these items, but for him to get an entire gold coin.

He was happy to receive the money but she gave him double the price he estimated, even if there were some high level silver grade items the total amount shouldn't go past give or take 700 Silver, silver grade items at the early stages wouldn't make this much.

'100 Bronze is 1 silver, 1000 silver is 1 gold and 100000 gold is 1 platinum, if memory serves me right that should be how the currency of Eldergard is managed, one of the reasons why even having silver makes you rich in the early stages was how hard it was to aquire even a single silver, she must have a request for me' he thought.

Marcus looked at the worker awkwardly.

"I think you've given me more then you should have" Marcus said.

"We'll, I want to make a request to you Mr Player" She said.

'Bingo' he thought.

"Call me Marcus" he said.

"Mr Marcus, I have a friend who recently became an Adventurer, he went to the goblin dungeon not far from here but he hasn't returned" She said.

"I see, do you want me to save him?" he asked.

"I'll be happy even if you just find his body" She said holding back tears.

[Quest given]

[Goblin dungeon]

[Save the friend of the items shop employee who is trapped deep inside the goblin dungeon]

[Rewards: 5000 Exp, 2 Gold]

"Don't worry, I'll have him back without a scratch" Marcus put his hand on her shoulder and smiled.

She smiled back to him and wiped the tears from her eyes.

Marcus walked out the shop after buying a scroll for 10 gold.

[-10 gold]

[16 Gold]

"Good thing I was heading to the goblin dungeon anyway" he said with a smile.

[Chat open]

"Ben" Marcus typed.

"Yeah?"

"Meet me at the North gate as soon as possible"

"Wait, your back already?" Ben asked.

"Yeah, I'm a little ahead of schedule" Marcus said.

"You got that right, I'll be there in a few minutes" Ben said.

"Alright" Marcus said.

[Chat closed]

Marcus went to the North gate and saw Ben there, he was a little surprised at the little crowd that was currently surrounding him.

"Master Ben, please take me with you to grind some levels!"

"I will give you all my money if you help me even get up to one level!"

"Sorry guy, I'm gonna be busy with something and I'm not sure my friend will be alright with bringing you all" he said.

He saw Marcus and smiled.

"Gotta go" he said pushing his way through the crowd.

"Who's that guy?"

"He doesn't look all that impressive"

"Are they friends?"

"Lucky bastard"

"That guy is level 4, can you believe it?!"

"Not one but two high leveled people in velvet town, isn't that crazy?!"

Ben walked towards Marcus ignoring all the voices behind him.

"Hey Marcus" Ben said.

"Looks like you have a fan club" Marcus said with a slight chuckle.

"Don't even get me started" Ben said.

[Ben has joined the Phoenix party]

[Ben]

[Level 6]

[4724/15000]

"Impressive, you managed to level this high in a single day, even with the spot I gave you it's impressive" Marcus said.

"Yeah, I followed the map you gave me but sort of got lost and had to face higher level monsters" Ben said with an embarrassing smile.

[Marcus]

[Level 4]

"Wait, why are you a lower level?" Ben asked.

"Don't worry it's nothing bad, this sword just took all my Exp to awaken" Marcus said gesturing to his left hip.

Ben looked at Dragon tooth.

"Is it normal grade?" Ben asked.

"No, it's silver I just turned off the visual effect" Marcus replied. "Before I forget" he said giving him the scroll he bought.

"What is this?" Ben asked.

"Just open it" Marcus said.

He opened the scroll and he saw the details of a magic spell on it.

Ben looked at him in shock. "What kind of spell is this?" he asked.

"It'll help us in a dungeon we're about to do" Marcus said on his way out of Velvet town.

Before they got out they were stopped by a group of players.

"Masters, please help us level up!" the group yelled in unison.

"Masters?" Marcus and Ben asked.

"Yes, you two are currently the strongest players in Velvet town! If we grind with you we'll be able to climb higher levels!" a young woman dressed like a mage said looking at Ben.

"Please sir, let us join your team!" She said bowing, her party bowed as well.

Ben looked at Marcus.

"Sorry, we are about to attack a high level dungeon and you'll only slow us down" Marcus said.

Marcus said walking away.

"Sorry about this" Ben said following him.

"Wait a minute, you can't attack a high level dungeon on your own!" a female archer member said.

"What are your average levels?" Marcus asked not stopping forcing them to follow.

Marcus felt a pair of eyes on him.

'Another appraisal Skill, I need to find something to keep that from happening' Marcus thought.

"Level 3, only 1 level below yours!" a male tank yelled.

"I'll give you a warning young man, don't go around using your Appraisel Skill on everyone you meet, because there are those won't be as forgiving as I am" Marcus said as he looked at the tank.

"Young man?" the tank asked. He looked at Marcus with an eyebrow raised. 'I'm 30 and you look like a teenager' he thought to himself.

"If you want to do the dungeon we're doing, go ahead, but your own your own" Marcus said as the made it to the dungeon entrance.

He picked the hard mode difficulty of the dungeon.

[Goblin dungeon Hell mode picked]

[Phoenix party has entered Hell mode goblin dungeon]

"Hell mode?!"

"Are you out of your mind?!"

"Pick whichever difficulty you like, good luck" Marcus said as he and Ben disappeared.

The party looked at each other.

"Should we try it?"

"Hell no, we'll do the easy mode!"

Marcus and Ben were in a cave that had a heavy stench.

"Smells like death" Ben said.

"Don't sweat it to much" Marcus said.

The cave started to shake heavily.

"What the hell?!"

"Get that new spell ready" Marcus said.
