Legends(2)

This was something that the top tier elementalists had never seen before or even imagined. A spirit that persisted after its masters death. All the water type elementalists gathered at the front and tried to beat the crazed beast but its thirst was unquenchable. It flew high in the sky and took a nose dive breathing fire. When it wasn't breathing fire it was passing through the army in ethereal form, but since it was fire itself it burnt them anyway.

Eventually it landed and the remaining number of soldiers was less than half of what they had set out with. It gave a sharp shriek before its flames turned blue and black and many though that it was burning out it took flight and headed towards their capital. Their hearts stopped. Some felt in that moment that hey should never had picked a fight with Momat of the Dragons since in doing so they had ushered in their end. They hurriedly kicked their horses to follow the spirit but it was too fast and all they caught up with was the trail of fire. Thus this battle was called a Trail of Fire.

In the capital the king was waiting for good news when he heard a scuffle outside his chambers and one of the royal guards knocked and came in without waiting for a reply. He urged his Majesty to get to safety, since something was coming. The king went to his large balcony window and upon opening it, what he saw shocked him to his roots. His capital was a blaze, a loud road was heard somewhere above him and when he look up he saw it. A beast clothed in black flames was standing atop his castle. It gave another sharp shriek that seemed to paralyze those of weak heart. The streets were littered with bodies of his citizens who for some reason were unable to stand.

The large black dragon took flight breathing fire and burning anything it touched, It went down then rose up and flew high into the sky. The king was transfixed, he had not realized that even though he was still standing the dragons shriek had affected him. His guards were still urging him to follow them but he was unable to move. The mighty power of the dragons was finally unleashed. Hovering very high above the clouds it opened its wings and roared a beckon at the sky and after a while meteors begun to fall. Wails and pleas of mercy could be heard from all over the capital as it was engulfed in flamed. The once magnificent capital burned for three days and nights.

By the time the soldiers were near the capital on the final day the dragon passed them still blazing but didn't bother with them and flew straight past quietly only the sound of flames could be heard. When they go to the capital, it was in ruins the still standing walls were melting, charred corpses were not even visible only ash was seen blowing in the wind amid the dying flames. Everyone had died. Their loved ones had died and this left a deep hole inside them that they chose to fill with anger and charged their already tired horses towards the Land of the Dragon.

What they saw at the gates killed their already shrinking hopes. The large dragon was standing guard in the place of its master as if it knew the retaliation was coming. They had nothing left to loose and charge straight for the gates and just like that they were burnt to a crisp. The smell of burnt flesh attracted all manner of animals but the dragon whose flames had now dies never moved. It was shriveled and was barely an image of its former glory. People felt in their hearts what it had done for them. News spread of the destruction at the capital and of the demonic beast that guarded the Land of the Dragon.

The remaining brother could nor bear to look at Momat's best friend and after a period of time and heavy research with the help of the elementalists association in the city he hypothesized a way to put the spirit to rest. First they made it docile and transported it to the caves, But alas they were unable to kill it but only sealed it. When it awoke from its slumber many years had passed and all that was left of its former self was anger as it had continuously wailed at the world.

"I don't buy it." John said

"Wha-"

"If it really existed and was sealed what has eaten the innards of all those remains we saw on our way here?" he said tapping his temple with his fore finger.

"..."

"I recon there's some other sinister thing in these caves, not some demonic dragon spirit." He said with a finality

"You're just scared it might be real,"

"Off course, do you think I want to be roasted, even our friends back there are not to eager to venture into the caves," John said as he pointed behind them with his thumb at the wolves which had now stopped and were looking at them wondrously. The shriek that followed was louder now, they were closer to where the source was. John felt his stomach turn, he did not want to proceed any further but the old man said this was the way out. Couldn't he have told them what was in the caves since he had already been there. That bastard must be laughing now.

"I reckon its true, if it was sealed then it makes sense that we have not been attacked yet. But I also think there is something else in this cave.

As they moved ahead seeing that the wolves were no longer following them they dismounted and guided their horses with reins. Hanging stalactite was dripping water onto the ground. It wasn't fair to have the horses support their weight on such slippery ground. They came to a fork in the road with each passage way being equally as dark. It was very hard to make a decision. John had watched many tv shows where people in caves came to such a choice but never thought he would have to make a decision. One route went sharply downward while the other went slightly upward. It was very quiet as they stood there.

"Something isn't right." Minerva said

"..."

"Isn't it took quiet?"

"You're right."

As they pondered this, Fireball who had landed and was looking at the two entrances gave a squeak and started to follow the upward route.

"Slow down!" she yelled, "lets go she must have sensed something." Following Fireball the horses were a little reluctant to move with them but didn't tug too dangerously. It was not necessary to have the horses follow but they had none verbally decided not to leave them to the wolves and have them in the caves just in case they needed to haul ass.

As they turned the corner another shriek was heard only that it wasn't as loud as before followed by small squeaking sounds. Fireball? They increased their pace and saw a light in the distance and slowed down and proceeded carefully. In this very wet cave there was a warmth that was emanating from the light source. It wast fireball since this light was more a gentle white than a blazing flame. When the came to the light what they saw shocked them.

On the wall was a shriveled bony figure whose hands were chained to the cave walls. What was even stranger was that the floor and the wall were made of concrete. It seemed to be sitting on a light source. Fireball was flapping her wings in front of her face. A strange lizard like creature with wing like ears was sitting on the shoulder of the bonny figure and it gave a shriek. It was also chained to a hole in what was this bony mans ear.

"I don't understand. How does that shriek get so loud?"

"Hmmm" John said holding his chin'

"What?"

"Well, back home people have made these structures where if you whisper in a certain spot in a house , it can be heard very loudly in another , maybe this cave was coincidentally like that, when this lizard makes the noise its amplified as it travels in these caves."

"Interesting," Minerva responded. "the mighty Momat and his dragon, talk about an exaggeration. Seems like this is a dead end, literally, this isn't the exit we were looking for, was that geezer toying with us."

"Relax, we still have yet to go through the other route." John said though despondently. "At least we verified the legend, nothing but a dead old man and a lizard."

"I wouldn't call me dead just yet." A heavy rich voice said behind them and they turned their heads slowly. Fangs and a loud breathy shriek met their faces.

As I wrote the part about the black flames I was listening to Gallows by Katie Garfield I recommend it, its very apt
