Peace conference

The meeting on the second day of the politburo goes well. Without much discussion, the whole politburo agreed to sign a peace agreement with the orcs. They have received notification from the KGB, and they know, it represents the will of the Brezhnev.

After the meeting, both Kosygin and Orgarkov start planning about the reformation. Orgarkov has written some of his targets, previous ideas and outlines about the reformation on a paper, thinking about the details. 

Anyway, the reform of the army has only two final objectives, improving soldiers' firepower and achieving information warfare. Orgarkov had some deep thought about these two objectives and decided to put improving soldiers' firepower as the priority.

Two years is too short for the electronic industry in the country to grow and is even shorter to apply them to the Red Army. In Orgarkov's thoughts, complete information warfare should be supported by electronic devices from every single unit of the army.

From the communication devices equipped by soldiers, then tanks and artillery, strategic support units, and avionic devices used by various aircraft and satellites in space. All should cooperate tightly, and work like a precision machine.

The Red Army still can achieve these objectives in its current status, but only with lower efficiency. Leading to improving soldiers' firepower is more important now. These also fit the coming new economic policy, which decreases heavy vehicle production as more factory-producing military equipment will be converted to produce consumer goods and farming machines.

So, in detail what will be needed for the soldiers to improve firepower?

Orgarkov again goes into deep thought, perhaps some advice from the frontline soldiers will be needed.

Soviet Embassy in Karakum,

Chernov is lying on a chair in the sun, bored. A few days before, the Karak suddenly withdrew all their army from the fronts, and at the same time, the orcs also stopped fighting with them. He then reported this situation back to the headquarters and received orders to follow the Karak instructions until further order.

The Karak brought them back to the embassy and left them alone. Until today, Zakhaev comes to him with a paper of order.

"Chernov, we got a job to do, the latest order from the headquarters has come, you must read this."

Chernov took the paper from him and read the orders. Gradually his brows began to frown, sit up and ask Zakhaev his question.

"Peace conference? We are having peace with orcs, why? Is there anything happening to our army? These orcs have committed unforgivable war crimes against the motherland, why are we having peace with them before our revenge has done?"

"I can't answer you, Chernov, what I know is the same as what you know now, we just need to know that these are the orders from Moscow, and we just need to carry out the mission firmly." Zakhaev sighed and answered.

But Chernov was still very dissatisfied, now the orcs were weak, and even though some difficulties could be overcome, there was no point in getting into peace just because of this. His mind raced through all the possibilities and came out with his conclusion.

"Something must be wrong, comrade Zakhaev, there must be some of our High-Rank officers have been controlled, maybe they are controlled by the orcs or Karak or undead. I don't know, giving the orcs a breathing space has nothing good for us, but good for them. We should be reporting these back to the Lubyanka."

"It is useless, this order is sent by Lubyanka, and it is ordered directly by the Andropov Chairman. He never met any of the locals here, how could he been controlled? If they can control him even without meeting him, then they must also be able to control the Comrade Secretary and any one of them in Moscow. We would already lose this war by the beginning." Zakhaev explained to him.

"Comrade Zakhaev, can you just double confirm with them, the order is so sudden, I believe as a soldier, not only me, but everyone in the front will be shocked and confused."

Seeing how persistent Chernov was in wanting to have confirmation and know the reason, Zakhaev had no choice but to ask.

Not long later, Zakhaev took another paper out and showed Chernov.

"They only told me some of the reason, Marshal Orgarkov stated that the Belarus and Ukraine Front is having difficulties fighting with the orcs, in no alternating choice, they decided to stop the war and have a reformation on the army."

Chernov read detail on every single word on the paper, worried that missing one word would cause him to lose the key information. After a long time, he only sighed and accepted the order.

"Well, then who is coming for the peace conference?"

"No one. They will only send one task force to protect our safety during the conference. But for officers, only you, me, Yazov and Akhromeyev. Two of us will be representing the country and sign their name on the paper. I have discussed with them at the moment I receive the order, Akhromeyev and I will sign our names."

Chernov lowered his head and showed a serious expression. He knew that the order was correct, but it just doesn't feel nice when it comes to you. At the same time, he also knows what it means to sign their name on the paper, it means before the Red Army finish their revenge, both Zakhaev and Akhromeyev will be seen as crimes of the Motherland by the people. They will blame them for selling the interests of the country.

Even everyone knows that the decision was made in a collective discussion, but most of the time, they will only blame the one that sign their name. Zakhaev seems to see what Chernov was worried about.

"It is not important Chernov, what is important is, that we serve the Motherland well. Remember we are KGB? Most of the things we do are not known by the people, for people like us, we are destined to do this. Do you think our people will forgive us if they know what have we done before?"
