Chapter 9

“Hey, take it easy.” Without saying anything, Nate led him out. They went to a cubicle across from his grandmother’s room. Lucian thought it must be Nate’s office. The man sat him down in a chair.

“Do you want some water?”

Lucian simply nodded. Nate disappeared for a moment and came back with a glass of cold water.

“Drink it.”

Lucian took two gulps of the water. Its icy coldness felt good running down his throat.

“Thank you,” he said, putting the glass on the table.

Nate dragged another chair out and sat facing Lucian. They were so close their knees practically touched. Lucian glanced at him and looked down.

“What happened back there?”

“Nothing.”

“Was that about the stuff you don’t want your grandma telling me about?”

Lucian turned back to Nate. They had talked, but Nate was still a stranger to him. He had known him just for one day. He couldn’t simply tell him about…No, he couldn’t.

“I told you mysecret, remember?”
