Born of the wastelands, Spheris Arnadel, a young skilled thief, finds himself subject to a twist of fate when he steals a powerful relic and becomes a Bearer — humans gifted with powers from the Gods. As a punishment for his theft, he is cast into an otherworldly realm alongside other Bearers, where he faces off against monstrous beasts and powerful enemies. Yet, in his determination to return to the Continent and save his dying mother, Spheris is hell-bent on surviving the abyssal world. Even if it means giving his body to the Dark God whose powers he had stolen... even if it means losing all of his humanity.
Spheris sprang up to his feet, an annoyed expression on his face. "Were you sneaking up on me?" he asked Thorin.
"I wasn't," Thorin responded. "I woke up to take a leak. When I was done, I looked around to check if everyone was alright. You weren't there, so I went looking for you, in case you were in trouble."
Spheris assessed him with his eyes. The chances were; what the Prince said was most likely true. However, for him to walk up to Spheris so silently that he hadn't even noticed, he must have been intentionally trying to sneak up on the Bearer.
At least to find out what he was doing awake in the middle of the night.
"I am fine." Spheris said, then turned around to return to his business.
"So this is what you usually do?" Thorin's question stopped him. "You wake up at night and talk to yourself?"
Spheris pivoted once again. "If that's fine by you."
Thorin let out a short laugh. "But you were talking to yourself... right?"
