Chapter 23: Harsh Truth

Kinsley’s POV

“Are you still mad?”

I linger in the doorway of the living room, watching my mate pace the floor relentlessly. He’s been at this all day and all night, my questions only piling up by now. Terron finally stops, rubbing his tired, worn face with his heavy palms.

He’s laced with exasperation and my antics haven’t helped.

“Terron, I’m sorry about everything,” I breathe, my wolf saddened by his features. “I didn’t mean for any of that to happen. First the party, then with Ace. It was all terrible and all my fault and—”

“Stop,” he says, at last, his voice raw and on edge. “Stop blaming yourself. It’s not your fault. I’m a little upset you thought I was going to take your father’s deal but after a lifetime of being betrayed, I can understand your initial reaction.”

I fight the urge to run across the room and kiss him. His understanding is something I wish I had a pinch of in my past. Maybe everything terrible in my life wasn’t my fault in full.
