Lena was awake just long enough to stare at the rising sun for several minutes before her breathing grew slower and she fell asleep with her head on my lap.
It was understandable, especially since she woke up earlier today than she was used to. I wondered how she managed to sneak away. I admit, some amount of unease had persisted in the corner my mind, cautioning me to rethink my selfish decisions.
I kissed the princess on the night of the ball to honor her betrothal with a foreign prince — my first mistake. I should have left it at that. Or better yet, I should never have done that, to begin with. Instead, I stole her away the next day and kissed her again. How idiotic could I be? The consequences would be horrible if we got caught.
But it's okay. When the sun rises higher in the sky, I'll take her back. No one would ever know she left her bed at the crack of dawn.
