Ilona felt numb as she washed in the stream, but it wasn't because of the chilly waters flowing over her. It was as if her mind was in a fog. It couldn't process what was happening or what had happened that brought them here. None of it seemed possible.
Her mother stitched up a long slice across her upper arm, left there from her fight with Charlie. The one on her side was deeper and needed more tending to, washing, stitches, and then bandaging to keep it from becoming a danger. The gash on her thigh, although long and bloody, turned out to be shallow enough that bandaging was all it needed.
While fighting the other pirates, both Anja and Sam had ended up with injuries that would require stitches as well. Sam had been keeping watch while Anja took care of her daughter and then herself. When it came time to care for Sam, however, both he and Anja looked at Ilona with uncertainty.
