2 Prologue

"This is how we do it," Jake muttered as he walked out the school gates, singing along to the song blasting on his headphones. "This is how we do it." He stopped and did a full 360° spin before continuing his walk. A light wind blew through his jet black hair, lightly ruffling it.

It was a beautiful day in New York City, not a cloud to be seen and the sky looked a gorgeous blue. The sun was nice and warm and felt great when in combination with the cool, gentle breeze that blew throughout the thriving city. It seemed like it was going to be an average day, or at least as average as it could get for 2nd year Jake Fire as he left school.

Jake Fire wasn't your average kid and it wasn't just because he was crazy talented in martial arts at the meer age of 15. The thing that made him stand out from everyone else was his headphones, which is to say music. Whenever Jake listened to music, even though it seemed rather impossible, his strength, speed, and reflexes were all amplified, making him into a literal walking weapon.

In the course of his first year of highschool, he had beaten up a group of seniors who had tried to bully him, slammed a girl down after she had slapped him, and broke the nose of the strongest member of the karate club after he had attempted to assault him. In each and every case, Jake had completely dominated his target without a shred of mercy, merely smiling and cracking jokes as he took apart his opponent.

By the time his second year rolled around, almost everyone began avoiding him, sometimes even going out of their way to make sure they didn't upset him. Most of the students formed the impression that Jake was easily angered and could be set off by a mere joke, that he wasn't someone that they should talk to.

Jake, little did they know, was actually the exact opposite of what they thought he was. He was kind and optimistic, not easily angered or provoked. The only reason he ever took action against anyone was the fact that he firmly believed in equality, as in if you wanna mess with him then be prepared to get f*cked up. Other then that he normally adopted a laissez-faire attitude, preferring to let things take a natural course and crack jokes about whatever happened.

Jake mostly kept to himself but not because he wanted to, but because everyone seemed to avoid him for numerous reasons he could only guess at. He didn't really mind though as during classes or even outside of classes, he would just slip on his headphones and listen to his favorite songs. The teachers didn't seem to mind much as he basically almost aced everything anyways so no problems arose from doing so. Though he had no friends, he was fine with it and just smiled, content on just cruising along with the flow of time.

Life in high school probably would've went on like this all the way until freshman year if fate hadn't decided to throw Jake a curveball. Fate seemed to have other plans for Jake Fire and it wasn't leading a simple life as a regular person.

Fate came in the form of a construction site blocking the route that Jake usually went when he walked home. Even then Jake felt that something was off as the construction crew hadn't been there on his way to school, nor had there been any prior warning that there might be construction in the particular area. However, Jake merely shrugged it off and decided to take a detour down a nearby lane, hoping instead to circle around. He wasn't too bothered by it as it only meant that he had to do a slightly bit more walking to get home. He lived five miles away, so walking a bit longer was almost nothing to him as it would still take quite a bit of time before he would reach  home.

The lane he turned into was actually quite nice and considerably less crowded in the packed streets of New York. There would be numerous cars passing by him due to the construction blockade but other than that there wasn't anyone else walking by or going for a jog. This didn't raise any alarm bells, though Jake did find it odd why no one would want to go for a jog with such beautiful weather. Such magnificent weather shouldn't be wasted by huddling indoors, but rather should be enjoyed by watching anime My Hero Academia outside.

Jake slipped his hand into his pants pocket and pulled out his Mp3 player and began fiddling with it, searching for a different song that he could play. His playlists consisted of almost every genre known to music such as pop, country, rock, rap, jazz, and a bunch of others. He loved to expand his horizons and always sought new music similar to how he always searched for more anime, a never ending quest that he would never give up.

Sifting through the song choices, Jake ended up settling for Heathens (by Twenty One Pilots), a mixture of rap and rock and a song that he very much enjoyed. He liked the freshness that TOP brought to music in general and had always liked the band. Though he knew that there was better artists out there, he felt that Twenty One Pilots had their own charms that could make even the haters of both rock and rap reevaluate their opinions.

"Please don't make any sudden moves," Jake snapped his fingers in tune with the music as he turned right at the next lane he came across. "You don't know the half of the abuse." He was starting to get into it and his steps even began falling in line with the beat and didn't really care if he looked like someone walking with a stick up his ass.

He was about to lose himself into the song when something ahead of him made him stop. It was a thing so weird and so confusing that Jake couldn't help but stop and stare, his body frozen midstep, his mind going blank for a second.

In front of him was a multicolored flat oval disk that hovered in midair. The oval disk shimmered and changed colors randomly, giving it a rather mysterious feeling.

"Holy shit its a rift in space time," Jake said as his brain began to work once again, accepting what he saw rather quickly. He slipped his headphones off his ears and let them hang around his neck. "Its like in that one TV series...I think it was called Adrift."

Taking his eyes off the multicolored oval, Jake looked around. Cars continued to pass by and a random stranger actually walked by him and the rift without even giving a second glance. Everything seemed to be continuing as if the rift didn't even exist and it caused Jake to come up with three possible reasons for it.

The first was that he was going crazy or had been drugged. This was unlikely as he had never before had any prior history to seeing things or any signs of heading to the dark side. While one didn't necessarily need prior history to establish craziness, Jake still felt he was mostly sane. He never messed around with drugs nor had he ever been medicated for anything so he was sure it wasn't some sort of hallucinogen or any other nasty chemical.

The second option was that it was some sort of scientific phenomenon. Of course this was crossed off the list rather quickly for various reasons. If this was a scientific phenomenon then why didn't the passing guy react when passing by the rift? He doubted it was such a well known phenomenon that it didn't warrant even a single ounce of curiosity as he wouldve heard about it if that was the case.

The third option on the list he came up with was that aside from him, no one else could see it. This one was close to the first idea but it wasn't quite the same as being crazy. Various stories and tv shows covered things that only one person could see and others couldn't, whether they were crazy or not varied on the story and show. Being able to see something that others couldn't didn't exaclty equal crazy but it also didn't exactly mean sanity either.

"Okay, so in interest of keeping things simple I'll stick to these three options," Jake said as he stepped forward, walking towards the floating oval. "I'm sure there are a number of other possibilities but that's not really as important right now."

Jake stopped in front of the rift and stood there with his arms crossed. "What exactly is this though? Can't possibly be a portal to another world as I would need the help of Truck-kun in order to reincarnate to get there." He began walking around the oval with a small smile on his face.

After a few minutes of just staring at it Jake uncrossed his arms and reached out, touching his middle finger against the oval. There was a single ripple followed by a low "ding" before everything returned back to normal...which only lasted for less then three seconds before Jake was sucked into the portal along with his backpack.

The portal, after sucking him up, remained there for another five minuted before it slowly disappeared, leaving no trace that anything had been there in the first place.
