The children at the Silverth mansion rarely went outside, so they naturally approached Declan to ask what was going on out there.
They held him at the gate once he arrived and asked a few questions, such as the post-apocalypse recovery process.
The atmosphere turned awkward when Gris arrived. Since he did not get along with the other kids, his presence was perceived as a nuisance.
But no one dared to bother him after the Forest of Death Test. His position increased, surpassing all the children since he received the necromancer class.
"It's a pleasure to see that you're doing well, Young Master," Declan made small talk.
Gris smiled. "I regret that I couldn't see you fight. What about the fire at the gathering place?"
The other children were curious about the fire attack, a topic that had not been discussed yet. They were particularly interested in the chaos after Blayz romanticized the villains' behavior.
He manipulated their minds, leading them to believe that the villains held a significant role in the chaotic society. It was reminiscent of the empire constantly feeding the ideology of heroism to the masses.
"I didn't know something like that happened," Rowan glanced at Gris, secretly envious that Gris had the privilege of leaving the mansion.
Declan quickly explained, "Someone sent a high-level fireball and set the gathering place on fire. But it didn't last long because the empire mobilized the best mages."
The children responded enthusiastically.
"I heard it takes a lot of effort to make a high-level magic attack. The person behind this attack must be powerful!"
"That person is also very brave for challenging the biggest empire."
"I bet Empress Lyora will catch the offender soon."
Gris interrupted, "I don't think the offender will be caught."
Everyone was stunned. Their curious gazes silently questioned why he thought so.
"The person behind this is clearly a member of the Doomsday Committee. My sister came here to announce that the academy will pick up the children of the Silverth family in a week."
The four children who passed the test fell silent at Gris' words while the others whispered to each other in shock. No wonder Gris had such an opinion.
If Gwen came, it meant some committee members were with her. Lower-class criminals would think a thousand times before making a mess at an important event.
However, the members of the Doomsday Committee were different. They often got difficult missions from their blessing deities, such as taking over an area.
Since the committee showed its nose in Amarthia, the members must have gotten certain missions to accomplish here.
In addition to causing destruction, the committee also aimed to slow down the recovery of an area, ensuring that the impact of the apocalyptic damage remained significant before the next wave struck.
For this reason, it made sense for the committee members to disrupt the alchemists' gathering, which could potentially speed up the community's recovery.
"One week to go?" Rowena gritted her teeth. "That's too soon! I haven't perfected my talent yet."
Alaric chuckled. "The Academy won't care about that. There's a lot more talent than you there," he mocked.
"How dare you! Werewolves aren't anything special, either. In fact, many werewolves are better than you!"
"Oh, you like me to assist you in ripping your mouth out?"
When Alaric's jade eyes flashed, Rowan immediately stood between him and Rowena.
"Do you think Father will be happy if we fight now?"
Alaric snorted and abandoned the idea of unsheathing his claws. He suddenly put his arm around Gris' shoulders, "Hey, brother! Do you want to practice with me until the academy representative arrives?"
"That sounds good. I'll ask for a special arena for us to use," Gris replied as he removed Alaric's hand from his shoulder.
Rowena's body shook with anger as she watched Gris and Alaric's interaction. With only a week left before heading to the academy, she felt a sense of urgency.
She did not have any outstanding strengths yet.
As much as she hated to admit it, Alaric's words rang true. She might be the genius of the Silverth mansion, but her talent would likely become average once she arrived at the academy.
She couldn't help but wonder why Gris received the god's blessing first. If only she had received her class before entering the academy, she could have been among the top disciples.
"This isn't fair…" Rowena muttered before leaving the gate furiously.
Rowan soon followed Rowena, concerned that her sister might make a scene due to her unstable emotions, potentially triggering Blayz's anger.
"Can I join your training?" Joana asked Gris and Alaric, hopefully.
Gris examined Joana's body. He gave her a faint smile and simply walked away.
Receiving such a response, Joana could only look down to hide her disappointed expression. She knew she was physically inferior to the others, and it stung.
"Good luck!" Alaric patted Joana on the shoulder before leaving.
The other children ignored the incident and returned to questioning Declan about what happened next at the gathering.
"...The Empire hasn't managed to find the location of the fireball attack sender. As Young Master Griswalden said, the culprit most likely came from the committee."
Declan ended the story and instructed the children to return to their places. As they dispersed, he could not help but notice the smell of fire clinging to his clothes.
"Ah, it's Archmage Torin!"
Leander winced at Declan talking to himself. "Who's that?"
"The great man who teaches magic classes at Pandemonium Academy," Declan grinned. "I took that class and am familiar with the smell of his fire magic. It must have been him who attacked the alchemists' gathering place."
Perched on a high mountain peak, a brown-haired man lounged on a sturdy tree branch. His eyes closed in serenity as if savoring every moment of the gentle breeze that caressed his face.
Gwen stood under the tree. Her hands were tightly clenched. "You didn't tell me about the attack. Tell me first if you want to do something, Torin!"
The man called Torin opened his eyes.
"I suddenly got a mission from the Chaos Manifest to disrupt the gathering."
Just as Gwen was about to respond, she felt the surrounding air rush by. A sudden awareness dawned within her.
"This is teleportation magic! Did the empire manage to trace your magic?"
Torin jumped down from the tree branch. A whirlwind formed around him as he stood his ground, tearing through the surrounding trees with unstoppable force.
As dirt particles flew through the air, Gwen quickly raised her hand to shield her eyes.
"We must fight if it's indeed from the empire."
As the whirlwind ceased its fury, the silhouette of a person emerged from behind the swirling soil particles. When the effects of the teleportation magic settled completely, Gwen and Torin found a smiling girl standing before them.
"Please forgive the unexpected visit. I am Solnisca de Amarthia, a close friend of Griswalden Silverth!"
Hey, sorry for not updating for so long. Truth is, I've been dealing with a weak body that's prone to illness. Last week, it was typhoid fever, and I had to take a week to recover. Can you believe I get sick like one to three times every month? My immune system's like tissue paper. If someone's sick nearby, I'm guaranteed to catch it, lol. I'm trying to get healthier, but I tend to ignore doctor's orders. So sorry. I got a contract offer, giving me serious motivation to prioritize my health. Wish me luck sticking to it!
