CHAPTER 05 : "Tyler Smith Is An Idiot"

"We are a mess. You and I. But the truth is that you captivate me in the ways no soul ever will."

----------------------------------------------------------------------

                                                                                                 | Tyler |

The four of us went towards the car. I made my way towards the driving seat, but Luke blocked my way. I grunted in irritation.

"What now?" I asked, too weary to fight.

"Step aside. I am going to drive. Don't wanna fall asleep again and wake up to find myself abandoned on the street". He proclaimed, snatching away the keys from my hands.

I attempted to make my way towards the passenger seat, when Luke blocked my way again.

"Hey! what's the matter?" I smacked him in the chest.

"Don't you remember that when I drive, I decide who will sit on which seat". Luke said, somehow still having the audacity to argue.

"Okay then you tell me where to sit? " I stated, gritting my teeth.

I swear if we hadn't been in a public places with people hearing us, I'd have thrown a million curses on him already.

"You go sit on the back seat, or else you are going to talk my ear off." He said decisively making me want to punch him with all my guts.

"Well then, who sits in the passenger seat?" Anna inquired.

"I guess Lucy would rater jump off a 100 storey building than sit beside me. So... Anna, hop on." He said, getting in the car, leaving me and Lucy staring at each other with blank expressions.

We were too exhausted to argue anymore. We got in, without any further ado, knowing it'll be worthless to argue with Luke the nincompoop. Clearly, he was doing this on purpose to piss off both of us.

Luke started driving. We were sitting distant from each other as if there was an escalated virus in the air.

From the corner of my eye, I caught a glimpse of Lucy yawning the tiniest yawn. I looked away, staring into nothingness, drowned in my own thoughts.

After a while, I felt a certain kind of warmth beside me, accompanied by a gentle and light weight on my right shoulder. I froze in my place, never making another move.

She was sleeping next to me, with her head on my shoulder. The thought of not hating that moment at all made me shudder. For a moment, everything faded out. It was just me, and her, and everything else went blurry. I stared at her for a moment, taking in her musky scent. I stroked a strand of hair away from her face, careful not to wake her up.

I smiled. She was cute when she wasn't quarreling with me- Wait, no. Forget it. I never said that. There's no way in hell I find this girl attractive after bickering with her whole day, listening to her useless accusations.

I hate my mind. Tyler Smith is an idiot.

Anna guided the way to Luke. Lucy was still asleep, unaware of the chaos she had caused in my mind.

After sometime, Luke stopped the car.

"Time to get up sleeping beauty!" Luke exclaimed loudly, making Lucy wake up with a start.

Finding her seated dangerously close to me, her eyes lit up with surprise. I was just staring at her deciding between finding the right words to say or just pretending like I didn't notice she was there the whole time. Both of them would make me seem like an ignoramus, so I just kept quiet.

She stepped out of the car, leaving me with mixed feelings.

What the hell is wrong with me? Where is the confident and bold Tyler who left everyone speechless? Something  is wrong with me and I don't know how to fix it.

                                                                                                 | Lucy |

Do you ever do something so embarrassing that even thinking about it makes your skin crawl 'cause same. I'm still cringing at the fact that I probably slept on his shoulder. No matter how hard I try to force this thought out of my head, I can't forget it. I can still feel his warmth beside me. His slow and steady breathes and the way he smelled. I must be out of my mind. Crazier is the fact that he let me rest against his shoulder, judging by the recent events that took place during the day, I hadn't expected that.

As soon as we were home. Anna collapsed on the bed and was fast asleep. It was a really long, tiring day. I bumped into my bed  and plummeted "The Fault in Our Stars ". I started from where I had left it. Soon I bursted out crying. I have a very faint heart. Anna woke up, irritated by my sudden outburst.

"Seriously Lucy! Does this ever stop? When will you mature? I'm so worried about you. I can't believe you are crying on a book which isn't even based on reality". Anna exclaimed.

"No Anna you don't understand. How can they just make us fall in love with Augustus Waters and then just kill him? That's not fair!! The writer just lacks creativity.. No offense to John Green though, he's amazing but I can't but hate him for killing Augustus." I blurted out, receiving a flying pillow from Anna.

"For goodness sake Lucy, it's almost 1 am. Just leave that book and go to sleep. I am telling you that this time if you don't wake up in the morning, I will pour a whole bucket of water on you and I'd do that with pleasure". Anna said.

"Umm.. Okay". I said, placing a bookmark where I had left reading.

I didn't realize when I fell asleep.
